I am happy to see this sonnet. I have been wanting to have the rules for this Spenserian . Sonnets are my favorite forms.
You have done a very good job on this. I take it this form does not require a Peripeteia (a twist or conflict).I see it won a first . Congrats. Well done. Nancy

Well written poem about an unrequited love. Good use of imagery and rhyming to convey your message of love. Good complimentary picture and an enjoyable read. Faye

yeltel, this Spenserian Sonnet is unique and creative in the choice of rich language and metaphor. The depths of love unreturned is described powerfully. Congratulations on your honors. :0 GracieAnn

Complicated pattern, but you make it look easy. Great flow, meter, and the rhyming is quite natural. Reads so elegantly. Love the title. Great job! Les

Wow, Yelena - this is one of your best.

Perfect rhyme and meter plus believable emotions in excellent poetic atmosphere.

This poet seems so real to you, though you make him sound rather blas© and shallow in his writings about real love.

I rarely like fresh sentenced mid-line, as it usually breaks the flow for me, but your 6th like works perfectly here.

Very enjoyable read.

Cheers, Ted

Thank you for the superb review and the six, Ted. It is a great honor. This was a contest on the subject of unruited love. I chose a Spenserian sonnet, which is just is a variation of a regular sonnet except for the twist in linking rhymes between the quatrains. So glad you enjoyed it. I think, Michael Cheval's artwork is a genius for the topic. I actually met Michael in my friends' art gallery in NY. He is absolutely brilliant, though I would to work several years to afford one of his paintings lol. I wish I had this artwork hang in my house.
I am excited about our challenge - how I love crossing swords with the worthy opponent! lol

    No probs, Yelena.

    Yes, the artwork is stunning.

Hey, if I'd have met him, I would have offered one of my poems, signed of course, in exchange for one of his paintings. :-)

Just don't sharpen your 'sword' too much. LOL

    Signing of now.

    Ted x

What a very complicated pattern to follow! I don't mind the beginnings of lines being dictated, as in acrostic poems, but I'd really struggle with this, so I can only congratulate you! And thank you for the author's notes!

You created a great title and chose the perfect picture and colors to illustrate your sonnet.

I enjoyed your strong rhymes and my favorite phrases were "whirled in red" and "scorched by heat".

11/23/14-- I am delighted that your Spenserian sonnet about unrequited love won the contest. Many cheers- Joan

This is a lovely sonnet, Yelena. The sonnet is my favorite form of poetry when it is done well - and this one is done well. I especially like the couplet.

This one has a very regal quality to it. There is a proper feel or better yet a formal feel to it. I thought this was excellently written. I liked it very much.

Brilliant! I love to see the good old sonnets back in use (as I am a huge fan of Keats, and rather enjoyed Shakespeare's sequence), would the Spenserian sonnet be a variation of the Petrarchan Italian sonnet form? It certainly conforms to that discourse in theme - and it is a pleasure to see that use of the older (more refined in my opion) language. Lovely!
