Hi Mary,
Interesting story about your family.
Makes me crazy not to know all the particulars of my fathers father...I ave been searching for at leat 25 years..maybe more.
He was born in what was then Russia... No records....
So I understand what you are trying to find out.
So many are lost during wartime...

Thank you for your review. I understand your dilemma about Russian records. Harvey's father left Russia at age 12 and never knew what happened to his mother. He never heard from her again. or could find her. 60 years later, a Russian cousin visiting said she died shortly after WWII.

O so we have a connection to Russia.
Of course the village that my grandparents were married in has changed its name.
If it was safe to travel there we would go...
I know everything on my mothers side...and what happened when my grandparents and father (and aunt) were traveling from Russia to Palestine. There war broke out and they ended up living in Egypt... Long story... and only what I remember from what my father told me...
I wish I had asked him more about his background before he died at the age of 96..Such a shame.

What a touching and sad story. Two extraordinary men that died too young. Thank you for sharing such a heartfelt story and the added author notes.
Keep writing:)

I real[ly like any opportunity for us to learn more about those who served, because of course every single one of them has a backstory and a family. I hope you're enjoying the genealogical process and learning a lot. :)

Hello Mary,
I enjoyed reading your story. I'm sorry to hear of the loss your family suffered. I don't know how those young men endured the misery of the trenches. Of course fighting the Nazi's was so difficult too. I think you meant to say buglers, not burglars.
Well done gal.
Have a blessed evening.
Tom

This is a thrilling story, concisely written that reminds us that too many men die during each war. I find it appalling that families give their all over and over again, and we never learn any better. kay

Hi Mary, I loved this story, it touched my heart. The sincerity of those stories and the knowledge that they will not make it broke my heart. Thank you for sharing and good luck with your writings.

This is really interesting along with your notes after the story. It is proof that war is hell. Neither man fought for the glory, they fought for their country and they died. There is one sentence that does quite read right . . . but I doubt no (maybe any) country would . . .

Very interesting. It took a minute to realize the first soldier was dead.

Thank you for telling us these engaging stories. You did a great job researching. I'm sorry that these young men died in the war. But am grateful for all these men, for whatever reason that they enlisted, because it helped to free many countries from a horrible dictatorship.
