Yikes. I'm having ET flashbacks with Elliot carrying ET in his bicycle basket going across the moon.
You have some lovely poetic devices...

As day dips into distance

Across an Autumn canvas

Hours slip away with sun

I remember shedding my training wheels well. This poem brought me back to that moment easily like riding a bicycle. *smiling*
Thanks for writing and sharing Jessica

Jessica, this is a wonderful poem. Your choice of limited words presented in a simple manner is very effective and creates clear images of the story unfolding before your reader's eye. Excellent work. Terry

This is a very pleasant free verse poem, Jess, about your daughter's big step--the moment the training wheels are shed. Such a feeling of pride and accomplishment accompanies this moment in a child's life, for both parent and child.

You've chosen a marvelous picture to go with the poem, and it was pleasing to read as well, with a rhythmic beat to it. Very nice job. - Jim

-Very nice artwork and presentation, Jessica.
-Your notes are appreciated.
-You wrote a very good poem with effective imagery
that paints a good word picture of the steps your daughter took.
-I like how you connect it to nature and the seasons.
-Good use of alliteration, as well as personification as
"the leaves tremble."
-I like the third verse as "she wobbles into balance...
Across an autumn canvas."
-A very good concluding verse with a good
play on words with "cycle."
-A good entry; good luck!

What a beautiful poem in tribute to your beloved daughter, Jessica!
Again, what I appreciate the most is your ability to convey to the reader your deep love using a paucity of words to do so.
Our three-year-old grandson received a much longed-for bicycle with training wheels a few weeks ago! He is a master of his universe as he pedals up and down his beloved streets and woods. I watch with happiness, but I want to hold back time - every once in a while...

Thank you for sharing!

Your sweet little poem took me back to the days when my granddaughters learned to cycle. The younger one learned in two days ! and she would zip off making my son run behind her!

As I read this endearing poem, I knew it was about your daughter...
Such a sweet poem...perhaps you could write a children's book with remembrance of your child growing up?

Holy cow. I'm a huge fan. Every time I read you I'm charmed by the turn of phrase you find...

"She rides into the stars
Upon another cycle"

My gosh! It's just perfect for the nostalgia of recalling when my own daughter found the pristine freedom of that thing called balance!

She must have loved riding that bicycle to keep going for hours to just feel the freedom of the road as she peddled along.
This is a fun free verse. Best of luck in the contest.

I found the author's words engaging, descriptive and creative. The author
creates an autumn scene that is lovely and nature based. I pondered on
these words and thought about my youngest grandson who just learned to
ride a bike! Thank you for the author's notes - I ask myself all the time
where do the years go! The artwork is awesome! Great Poem, Jessica!
