I did not come to know my paternal grandmother until late in my life. I was 28 when we had our very first conversation. We were shocked to find out that not only did we both write poetry, our favorite poet was Paul Laurence Dunbar. My grandmother wrote used a typewriter to write a small book titled My Vacation. she mimeographed a few copies and distributed them to a few people. I received a copy much later and I could see that it was decaying rapidly, so I transcribed it onto my computer and later published it through KDP-Amazon. I have been able to share it with many of her other grand and great grandchildren as a result. It is important because it is like having a conversation with her as she wrote it in the same conversational manner in which she normally spoke.

This is a beautiful post and an equally beautifully sentiment.
This is well written and touching. Some people don't stay long but their memory does and all the lives of the ones they have touched. I appreciate you sharing this story.

J, (I will not use your name because of the contest rules) You have a very thoughtful story. I have a suggestion for you to consider. The note you included with the story is also very good. But, I don't think it belongs in the note at the bottom.
I think the first two sentences of the note belong as the first two sentences of the story. And consider some of the other parts of the note for the story as well..."it would be a tragedy if you never knew what a loving giving person she was."
You got some good stuff, maybe include it in the story. Good luck. Terry.

Since I created this contest I get to see who is posting and read the stories early.
You are not the first who puts some really good stuff in the notes.
You have some "controlled pathos" in both the story and the notes. Since your story is short, it could handle some of the other stuff. Good luck, Terry.
