Thank you so much for this encouraging and thoughtful review. I am glad we are on the same page with this, although I am not surprised. I knew you wrote your poetry long-hand and I think that is great! I wish I would go back to doing it that way but, habits die hard and I am used to my computer, now more than ever. As some readers have pointed out, we do a lot with our hands, and what would we do without those who build houses and cars and bridges and all that we need? Anyway, thanks for the awesome review and excellent rating.

Jesus was trained as a carpenter. Many of his disciples were fishermen. Examples for us to value the dignity of physical labour.

I liked the sense of rhythm in this piece, particularly in the second stanza, where the motion of the hands hammering away or sawing away at the wood seemed caught up in the rhythm of the words describing it. Very much after the model of Seamus Heaney, who was the master of this convention. I liked that image of building mountains up out of dust. It gives a sense of accomplishing something out of what seems impossible. estory

So very true! And where would we be without the work of people who work with their hands? I'm thankful for all those who labor with their hands. A very important message in your poem. We need to find ways to honor all people for what they do and your poem does just that.

Thank you for your thoughtful review. I would address you by name, but I confess I do not remember it. Yes, I too, am thankful for all those who lovingly labor with their hands to build and such. They make our lives much easier, because of their skilled hands making everything from houses, to cars, to machines, to artistic sculpting...the list goes on and on.
Those who work with their hands are honorable people, and should be treated as such! Thank you again for your wonderful review and excellent rating!

Thank you. Dorothy, for having a healthy attitude about physical labor, and the wonderful difference, it makes in our world. My late wife was a construction worker and she was able to do anything she wanted to do! I was so proud of her!
She passed away in 2007, and I miss her every day still. Thanks for sharing and for letting me share as well.

Yes, my weather is beautiful also. Sadly, I have an appointment, and then my caregiver goes to see his other client so, I am spending the day inside. But, I have a great view outside my window to look at.
