Excellent write! With brevity yet concise language you conveyed the essence of a set of "Gemini spirits" who found each other and wrung the joy out of each (over the fence) meeting! Love how delicately you described her passing...gently and peaceful as the friendship you both so obviously treasured. I could not give this less than six stars!--Karenina

Amada,
You've really written a beautiful entry for the True Story Contest about your friend Lois. I like how you gave enough details about how you both had many things in common and I also like how you introduce that wedge of fence and the memorable conversation there.
You have imagery that allows your reader to join in the experience.
Your ending lines are particularly impacting:
"Now, each time I walk by that wedge of fence, that space glows like a celestial hello, an endless smile from my beloved next-door neighbor. And I smile as well"

Your concise nonfiction piece is excellent--well-worded, moving in its theme, and descriptive in the telling of a wonderful story of long-lasting close friendship.

My parents have neighbors like this. They actually have a community garden in the one neighbors yard. They all have their duties and everyone on the block eats from it. If my mom notices that someone has taken their stuff out she will pluck it out and take it to them. I hope many people have fond memories like this.

I love the sincere affection in this and the lovely AHA in the closing. It really captures the energy you shared! What a glow! Nice pacing, tone, POV, sentence constructions and details.
Two suggestions:
*she exhaled warmth
exuded instead of exhaled (optional, of course)
*The happy years, however, marked its steps
thier instead of its
Big hugs,
