Very moving stuff. I found this to be an excellent read. It sends an important message, while being creatively written. I enjoyed it. Very well done, indeed.

I want to live life as you describe beautifully:
to have lived a life that was of my own choice.

And I want everyone to dare to do it and the world will be a better place.

Then will you be at peace with yourself

And to be able to say, I am my best friend,

As I look down the farthest side of my life with age,

Fulfilled and understanding in all, and truly content

to have lived a life that was of my own choice

very nicely done with a great poetic flow. I love the last part the best

Well if you wish to live your life unencumbered by others, and according to your own mind's ways. Then being a pilgrim was the way to go. Well done.

deepwater,

Your free verse treatment of life in 'The Quest' recognizes the ultimate responsibility of consequences of one's own choices and actions. Most decisions we make are virtually irreversible. Good job.

Oh my, I think you have stated so beautifully and eloquently what most of us strive for- to truly be our own best friends and to look back on our life and say, "not perfect, but well done!". Love your poem! Hugs, Samantha

When one gets a chance and chooses to live a life of their very own choices, it is probably the best a free spirit can hope for. Excellent imagery about life's passage. For some it is indeed a quest. Blessings,Linda

As children we longed to grow up in a hurry, not realizing the beauty of what we had. Reaching adulthood and beyond, we look back on the fast paced life of hardship and struggles, accomplishments and materialism, we see where in the process we abandoned our most precious treasure--ourselves.

Well thought out with great insightfulness.

I liked this, we thought it would be wonderful to be an adult then we found out how hard it was. Now that we are older we see another side. Time to relax a little and let the young reach for the stars.

If we all reflect knowing that many choices and forks in the road were our own, We have admit to ourselves that we are content. Interesting take on life, and well worth the read, James.
