G'day deepwater
This is a thoughtful poem though i think it is spoiled a bit by the unusual usae of 'quest' as a noun; it's not wrong, just unusual and i think that may put some readers off a bit.

Cheers!

Wow! First of all, welcome aboard Fanstory, deepwater (name would be nice for the future if you don't mind) I am amazed at your work...fantastic. I would give this a six if i had one left. "Only to survive to see another moonlit night alone, Then will you be at peace with yourself" Bravo! Bob

Or, you could try and rob a bank, get
caught, go to prison, smoke crack,
become a homosexual or a transvestite;
then, on top of that, get out of prison,
start a cult, bilk your followers, build
a thousand mansions (but never live in
one for more than a day) and have 5 million
slaves.
Even then you might be at peace with your
self... who knows?
Nice! fish

I hope at the end of this twisted road of life, I will one day be able to say the last 3 lines of your poem with ease and peace. thanks for this.

Go as a pilgrim and seek out your quest,
Far from the comforts and well-lit avenues of life,
Only to bet your soul against the human unknown,
I like the choice of words in "pilgrim" and "quest' ... there's a sense of faith in pilgrima and search for something of meaning and imporatnce in quest. To find ourselves, to understand ourselves better, we need to step into the unknown, away from comfort zones to test our limits.

Only to survive to see another moonlit night alone,
Then will you be at peace with yourself
And to be able to say, I am my best friend,
I guess it's human nature to look outwards to find contentment, happiness. There's a tendancy to wait for others to provide us happiness so we search for this person or people. Truth is, happiness is within ourselves, we cannot totally rely on others. We need to be comfortable with our own skin.

As I look down the farthest side of my life with age,
Fulfilled and understanding in all, and truly content
to have lived a life that was of my own choice
This is the reward of living life to the fullest with no regrets because you have lived on your own terms.

And fully lived, too, deepwater. Fine poem; I read it twice, just to enjoy the feel of it more, and get more from its meaning. I think "intimate wealth in the company of friends" is the line that struck me most, or rather, struck the strongest chord, for that is wealth indeed. (Not that I'd object to the financial sort either, lol.)

Thank you for posting!

Louise

A bit deep and meaningful, a true quest indeed.
You have written a good piece of free verse and I don't understand with 93 views why you have not hitt the recognized spot yet, maybe folk who can't read properly or something, I don't know, it's a fine piece by me.
The quest is all about the journey of ones life, I have noticed tho sometimes on Fanstory that people sometimes, sometimes don't appriciate proper poetry.
Take care friend, keep fighting and writing Rudy.

This is a worthy goal, to live a life making your own choices instead of having them dominated by just anyone. And I hope and trust that you will not see too many moonlit nights alone. Best wishes, Jeanie Mercer

You have captured the journey well my friend. Your words are so true; from the journey of trying to find one's way in the world, experiencing all life has to offer, the ups and downs, the questioning of choices to the final acceptance that we made the best decision we could at the time - as wrong as it might have been! It seems we all go the same path as we grow older questioning and hopefully reaching contentment. Well done! Frances
