This is a good chapter. I had to look up the word 'purview.' It made me think of when we had to look up vocabulary words in sixth and seventh grade, so I am going to assume that is your audience, although fourth and fifth graders would understand it fine, too.
This paragraph here confused me on punctuation:
"Minah and Sprig" - there was only a bit left in the can, but the two spread all their arms out and hummed as the last of the water dribbled over them - "I worry about the two of ye."
I rather think that it would look better to put "Minah and Sprig, I worry about the two of ye." after the description there.
Will...work...for...blueberries.
Or blueberry pie a la mode, ha.

Just love your stories Yvette, they take one into the realms of the imagination that is pure escapism, which I approve of most avidly, they were all I read as a small boy, and even as a slightly bigger boy. Love your characters and most imaginative plots dear friend, well done, blessings Roy

A very well-written chapter in the book The Gardens at Weatherbury. If everyone does there part in maintaining the garden all will look great at the end and everyone can enjoy the results.

This was great, Yvette. It was a great continuation chapter. I do so enjoy the story of the garden and Nicholas' fantastic transition to be the groundskeeper. Well done.

Hello Yvette.

"Managing Imps" is probably an oxymoronic phrase. Managing or controlling them is like "herding cats." Since Archie could not catch them if they get too active, he needs to use the blueberries to get them under control.

Yvette , I'm so glad I caught this . It looks like an exciting adventure story and onto will enjoy getting in to reading. I will definitely hop on over to catch up.
Seeing that it's written with pre-teens in mind, it's perfect for my sensibilities. Loren

I would have given you a six had I got one left. I've been so busy lately I didn't notice you'd posted this. Once my husband had managed to get my heart beating again, and sat me up drip feeding me a weak cup of sweet tea, I was able to come and read it, my heart still beating erratically, but I managed. Now don't go worrying about me, Yvette, I'm fine. :))
Now to review this part. I laughed my socks off!!! I've missed these fun guys, they make my day. I love reading about Sir Archibald, he's such a brilliant character, and has the fun job of trying to keep order in the shed, especially with Shot and Jerry, and, Minah and Sprig. Well done, my friend, another wonderful part in your super story. :)) Sandra xx

    Oh, you're HILARIOUS, Lady Sandra -- life's been a bit nutty, but my pen is glad to be on the paper again!! ;) Teaching isn't as heavy this year (although there's a lot more traveling... guess I should do a post about that... we'll see... I am The Traveling Mathematician!!) so I'm looking forward to writing again FINALLY... ;) Thanx for the great review and I'm glad you recovered.... crazy friend across the pond!! ;) Take care!! ;) :) Yvette

Y,

I am really, really glad you are continuing this story. I had begun to wonder - though I know you have been frightfully busy as of late. And it even surprise me that here, as school is only getting into a rhythm, you are able to do it NOW. But then, you are always full of surprises. And I like that a lot. *smile*

Notes, if I may:
1.) He covered his hand as he whispered in my ear.
--> face?

2.) Minah and Sprig shook themselves off and took off toward the open drawer,
--> made haste?
--> need to avoid that duplication of 'off'

3.) Shot grabbed hold of Jerry's back foot as he launched himself vertically to eye-level with the determined armadillo.
--> I couldn't visualize this movement. Is there some part of the description of their earlier positions in the previous chapter that help lead into this?

4.) Jerry hung there, upside-down, in Shot's grip trying
--> and I didn't understand how Shot's action caused Jerry to upend himself. Help?

5.) Oh(,) benevolent and powerful Groundskeeper, plea-"

6.) Oh, good(,) I thought.

7.) But the real question on my mind was: (W)here were we gonna go?

Still worth a solid five. As a matter of fact, I meant to tell you that the first chapter I read in this little series was well worth six - but, alas, I am out. Thanks so much!

    Okay, my beautiful friend!! I have fixed the nits, but I re-worded that one part if you'd take a look at it... Thanx so much for the look-see at this - I did what I NEVER do: I wrote and posted this in a single afternoon (I like to write, read/touchup/read/touchup, sleep on it, read/touchup, and THEN post -- very OCD, I know!). But I was just damned determined to get going on my writing again -- don't know if you can relate, but I NEED the escape that my stories/characters provide (especially when life gets sucky!). Thanx again for everything and I'll be looking at the rest of your reviews soon -- just wanted to touch up the current chapter as I knew I could trust your 'fixes'... Take care and enjoy the sun again (bout time it returned!!). ;) :) :) Yvette

This is a lovely tale that will draw the pre-teen audience and keep their attention. The characters are engaging and lovable. I think you have a winner here!
