This was a very interesting story-type read for the writing prompt contest! It is sad what is happening to our world and society, like you mentioned, the toilet paper and other acts. Virtual hugs are the best alternative right now!

This is very well written and is certainly a worth while entry for this prompt. Thankfully I've only experienced kindness so far. A number of people have offered to shop for me. In spite of my age, I'd like to get out even if it is only to shop. My nurse daughter just hugged me. Ironically I'm sure she is in danger of being exposed. The only thing I've seen that I thought was something people shouldn't do was clean out the dollar stores of medicine, cleaning products and item, I'm sure they planned to resell at a profit.

Yes, this corona virus is making people a little crazy. I have a nice little stash of cat litter, of all things. I was in the store and I wondered where the cats would go if I were quarantined for a few weeks. I have more food for them than I do for myself. It's weird what enters our minds. I'll take the virtual hug, and yes, I think we can beat this thing too.

A great essay on the pandemic. I think you really speak for all of us, or most of us I guess, when you talk about feeling frustrated at the lack of empathy in people, the desperate selfishness that takes hold in times of panic like this. And there's this great human side to it, the loss of contact, physical contact, which we humans need, that we can't have anymore. And there's a real plea for faith. I believe God is shaking the world up. A scene from Revelations. Unfortunately the answer is not in us but in Jesus. Wait till people really get desperate, when they start running out of money and food. The longer this goes on, the worse it gets. estory

estroy, yes, I believe we are being tested! Perhaps, for the sake of my eigth grandchildren better now than later, perhaps will awake mankind socially around the globe in a better way.

I'm not a hugger but I appreciate huggers because even though I'm not a hugger I sometimes need them. There are some people that when they hug you everything melts away. There are some people that will hug you regardless of you being a hugger or not, not being pushy, but just who they are. Sometimes those are the best people. I work at a grocery store, I actually broke my foot a week before all this happened. I've been off, missing all the chaos, however I'm sure it'll still be going on when I go back. My parents live in a small town and they did buy extra toilet paper. They can't find any in their town anymore. I was asked to buy some for them. I started therapy a couple months ago, I haven't went in a couple weeks, I really need to go next week. I'm so scared that they will cancel it due to this. Everything else can cancel and shut down but I need that right now. Time will tell. You did a great job and really thank you for being a hugger for all of us non huggers that still need hugs.

I found your text to be so true. I can understand people being scared and rightly so. We are in the realm of the 'unknown' but to go on a spree of toilet paper is purely berserk. However, this calamity is bringing people together, even Congress. God does work in mysterious ways.

I'm a hugger too, and I'm going to miss it like crazy tomorrow. In the UK, it's our Mothering Sunday, and I won't be able to see my sons, only on Skype. Better than nothing, but not the same. We must pull together, and think of our neighbours, all the elderly, and the infirm. I'm lucky, my neighbour does come and see if we want any shopping. I hope those who read your entry, take heed, and stop going out and buying everything in sight. We aren't allowed to buy more than two items of any product now. We don't have guns, so that is one bonus. You take care, and good luck in the contest. :)) Sandra xx

SANDRA, Wow! I love the control point of limiting purchases in volume that makes such sense! I was introduced to my first Zoom meeting it sure helped to eyes on dear friends but alas, there was not a hug, I so miss. Thanks so much, be safe, my friend!

I've never been a hugger, but there are so many ways to feel the isolation. A lovely piece, written from the heart. It is my wish that, when all this is over, we might see how we've created a society that values hoarding and possession. That 'sharing' isn't as prominent as it should be, and that maybe the rightful disgust we feel about the toilet-roll hoarders should be felt about those that hoard the money. We see the empty shelves and are horrified, but it's a metaphor for the 'empty shelves' some people in poverty see every day.

As I'm reading this I'm watching the news. I'm with you on the hoarding supplies issue. I am 41 and I feel terrible for the seniors in my area. It's not fair for them to have everyone buy all of the food and supplies up. Most of them aren't tech savvy so they don't do "Instacart" or "box.com". They have to physically go to the store. The selfishness is very upsetting to me. But I blame it on our media. Creating this panic.
