That reminds me of an old joke I heard once. "John," the wife said to her husband, "you were there when I had the measles as a child, you were there when I broke my leg falling off that horse. You were with me when my mother died and later my father. And you were at my side when I had to put my dog down. John? You are really bad luck!". I really was amused at the poem, and got a good chuckle at the end.

I really enjoyed reading this tongue in cheek poem about a undeserving husband. You certainly hit the nail on the head a lot of the time and I often wonder whether men are generally selfish, the older generation anyway.
Maybe something to do with them wanting a mother not a wife. The poem rattled along at a great pace and the consistent rhyming added to its appeal. Well done.

My favorite part was, "Can you forgive me darling?
I know I'm the one to blame,
for not quite measuring up.
But now it's time for me to claim...". Because by the end of it he stopped making excuses and held himself accountable for his actions!

This is hilarious, women have often been blamed for all the 'ills' in life by men and been their punch bag for too long! Ha ha ha, this is full of fun and I enjoyed every word, a great entry for the contest, I wish you luck, love Dolly x

It was fun to read your heartfelt poem, and the admission of all those silly mistakes. I'm very sorry for your bereavement. Please accept my condolences for the loss of your loved one. And have no fear that I might reveal your guilty secret. Everyone's entitled to a few mistakes.

Sounds like the wife here grew tired of being overlooked and under-appreciated and took a permanent step in correcting it. Here are some revealing lines: (...I got caught up with recipes
for meals that would impress,
and ones that cooked real quick,
for your unplanned, last minute, guests.)
I kind of think I would get rid of the parentheses and just have it weigh in as much as the other stanzas. Clever writing!

Thanks CrystieCookie, I took your advice because I was in doubt about putting brackets around that stanza.

Thanks for a very thorough and helpful review!
