How lovely this story is, it reminds the reader of what it is to commit a selfless act, and to help someone in need. I think we ought to help more, and in doing so, help ourselves as well. Great story!

Wow! Another pleasing story, Sally. I really enjoyed it. Wouldn't it be nice to be an angel? ...to roam the earth looking for people to help? At times, we all need a little help to get to our feet. A friend. A relative. or even an angel. Remember Clarence of "It's A Wonderful Life"? He was sent to help George Bailey remember his blessings. We often overlook what we see everyday, eh?
This story seems very real to me. I believe in angels. They walk the earth daily, doing God's work.
"Oh, yes! Wait ... how did you know I had two sons?"
"You mentioned them earlier."
(Angels are such liars!
Thanks for sharing this uplifting tale!
Cheers

What a beautiful story with such a beautifully blended touch of the supernatural. It kept my curiosity piqued to the end. This should do very well in the flash fiction contest.

Gotta love those 'angel stories'.... they're always reassuring midst the doom and gloom that seems to try to sneak up on us! ;) Thanx for sharing, my lady, and best of luck! ;) Yvette
supper just happened to bring him near a desperate soul who had just sat --> [remove one of the 'just' ... too many in too short a span]

{Just} so glad you showed me that, Yvette. I was at 499 words and now I can breathe easier at 498! I do that because that's the way I talk, I suppose. Jackson says I over dramatize. LOL! Seriously, thank you. It's hard for me to stay within a word count for these flash entries. (I've been disqualified before for being over.) I'm so pleased you enjoyed my contest entry. ;) :)

What a super duper story, Sally. Hey, do you like my alliteration, LOL. Seriously, you grabbed my attention from the get go and held it throughout.
I love magical stories and the Irish are famous for it. You've earned the shiny star. Hugs, Lou

Sally,
Wow! this is such a soul sparkler!! It just made me feel good this morning. Thank you for that!! A fantastic piece for the flash fiction tavern contest. It has a defined plot, heart-warming characters and tells a complete story in a condensed amount of words. Well done! (I have so much to learn.)
Blessings to you,
Beth

Wow! I need me an angel like that! Great story for the contest! Perfect testimony to our God who never lets us down! So do you have some Irish blood? You write as though you are intimate with Irish ways! But the scope of your knowledge on any of your topics is always superb! xoxo. Surprise! I saved one 6 just for you! Now my bank is dry! Haha!

Ah, I snagged your last sixer? I am deeply honored, yet again. I'm glad you enjoyed my contest entry. I actually had an angel encounter as a little girl who saved my life! To this day, I still believe in angels all around us. Thank you, again. I am so blessed.

This is a superbly heartwarming story of Dr. Sedrick McGrath, legendary Angel of Ireland, performing one of his life-transforming deeds for a man who had lost hope of being able to support his family because the factory where he once worked had closed months before.
My favorite part:
"... I'm a pathetic loser!"
... "The one who sent me doesn't think so."
Most of us could not bestow the gift of a house, but we all can do smaller acts of kindness every day. Even a smile lifts a spirit. No one ever shares enough hugs in a lifetime, but something as simple as a well-earned word of praise and/or encouragement can make a big difference.
Your stories are a welcome loving moment amid this world's harsh realities.

Your story is clear and interesting. The scene is set at a tavern where the stranger comes in and seems to know a lot about the man and offers him a place to live in return for being a caretaker. Miracles do happen. I've heard of such coincidences. In this case, though, the stranger (doctor) was heaven sent. Best of luck in the contest. Marilyn
