Quite enjoyable. This has the whimsical thinking that children (and adults) would enjoy. Yes, they do look weird, although they probably think they're pretty. Fun questions, and enjoying a cantaloupe is clever. Great work, and fun rhyme. judi

This is a very cute poem for children. I think it could peak their interest in trying to write a poem themselves. I wish poetry was more encouraged than it is...it's a lot better way to spend one's time than playing games on a smart phone. I'm glad you've posted this!

thank you so much. Am working on collection of poems about animals and birds for children to submit to publishers. Here's hoping. I don't have any more nominations for reviews, but I sincerely thank you for your comments.

Katharine,
What a fun little poem. I can see how kids (and adults) could get a great kick out of this one (I sure did.) *smile* It shows lots of great imagination - which you always have in loads. hahaha The last line (the whisper) is my favorite. Thanks so much!

What a great poem, that teaches a lot about gnu by making it fun. And I love how the last line whispers. They're funny looking, sure, but are they that much more funny looking than buffalo?

Well, I think they have buffalo beat, but not by much. Do you know that when I lived In Crested Butte, CO, these people had buffalo and bred them with cows and sold the "beefaloes" for meat. The strange even stranger.
Thanks for reading and for you very nice comments.

I'm not sure what age group this poem was written for but I come from a pre-school world. . .I don't think this will work for them but I'm sure maybe 7/8 years. That aged group likes to see interesting looking animals. . and possibly poke fun at them. The poem is interesting and introduces an animal that is possibly often overlooked. . .so good for you. The best to you in the contest. :)

I don't know, he kind of grows on you looking like a sage old wizard from a Harry Potter book LOL. This is a delightful poem and a fun read. The rhyme and meter are flawless throughout nd aloud it reads with a tone and feeling that all kids would be drawn to. Well done and thank you very much for sharing it.

Now that is information I have never had before I read your well composed poem. What an amazing world we live in. So many various species and somehow we will never see or hear of many of them. Thanks for sharing.
