Well, what a tale of scant regard for life... clearly his daddy's preachings had minimal impact. This is a no-holds-barred straight-shooting tale of the old west, with all the bloody details, in an unadorned classic style.

Lance,

Okay, look. If what you're saying is true -- and I'm assuming it all is, of course -- I'm looking at these dates and this information and flipping out.

He died at age 42, right? If he spent the last 20 in the pen, then he did all the above stuff in his first 22 years????!!!!!

That's kinda important information - you might add that to your notes -- that is, if I got this right???

Thanks. I always knew this guy was bad. Knew about the snoring guy. Enjoyed! Good luck!

That?s why I referred to him as a troubled teen. The Sheriff shooting was age 21 and the next item is going to prison. You are correct with the timeline. Everyone should easily figure that out. See author notes. Thank you so much for your comments and review! Have a wonderful weekend!!

If I could time travel, I'd go back to the wild west days. My grandmother was a Pinkerton and we love to imagine we are related to the Pinkerton Detectives. I'me always keen to read good western books and learn about outlaws and lawmakers.

This is a fun poem and introduced me to a different outlaw. Great learning about history.

Best wishes in the contest.

Joy xx

Your poem manage to bring up in front of my face the wild west theme. " I know this is serious stuff, but this fragment made me laugh, your hero comes up as a being with supernatural powers.
Pursued by three soldiers for a murder,
Hardin ambushed and killed all three.
Accomplished while still just a teenager,
Which allowed him to remain free. "

I regret the delay in responding, but the Baltic cruise ship had an unstable internet signal. Just got back home and have lots of catching up to do.

I admired your rhymed quatrains about the mid-west. I learned a great deal about John Wesley Hardin and forty murders. Best wishes in the contest. Smiles- Joan

Greta poem and write in this famous outlaw, love the way it gives you facts of his life in a short and timely way and even the write seems to show no holds barred in its delivery! The write fits the theme and format as required and I really hope you do well in this writing entry. I love the ending it comes across as a R.I.P.! Can certainly see your talents as a writer come through here and has great historical relevance as well, so well done you!

A good write and your poem is based on John Wesley Hardin a real gunslinger of the old west. He sounds like a sociopath, but I guess, it's not un-thought of to shoot a man for snoring. Best of luck in the contest. Marilyn

Interesting recap of this man's life. It goes to show that no matter what the year there were always those that were troubled. It was just easier for men to get away with these kinds of things in the old west.

Excellent poem and good history lesson. Your rhyme met the prompts
demand. And the story in your poem was entertaining and interesting. Very good work. Good luck in the contest.
