Poignant verse well crafted with flowing rhythm and lots of good old western terms which I thoroughly enjoyed. They all give flavour and fun, albeit a bit sad, to your fine verse. Thanks for sharing and good luck! Debbie

How lovely and sad this is. You have written this really well and my heart aches for this wonderful horse who has given so much in his prime. Alas, the time comes for all of us but it was good to read he can spend his remaining years in 'comfort'

A very poignant poem about a horse that has seen its day after having given all it could ever give, The poem flows very nicely and is an enjoyable read. Leaves us sad to see the horse put out to pasture.

I miss my horses, too. I had horses for at least 20 years.

It was obvious, as I read this beautiful, yet heartbreaking poem, that you have a deep respect, knowledge of, and love for horses. The thought of them being 'put out to pasture' always saddened me, too.
I love your rhyme; I love the story within the poem. I really loved the strong descriptive words you used in telling of the cow pony's prime years; and, equally exceptional, was the telling of the emotional loneliness of the aging horse. Animals do mourn; I've seen it often enough.
A truly exceptional poem!!

Hi Nancy, I've reviewed this poem before. My feelings are the same.
You never miss a beat, you never miss a rhyme. You are still the
"Queen of Rhyme." Well done. Still a goodie. Xo. M

Hello Nancy, this is a poem that makes the reader say ahh.

Of special note:
Just an old worn out cow pony, that's forgotten, on his own.
He's been let out to the pasture, and he stands there all alone.

(It happens too often and not just to cow ponies.)

Lovely artwork choice. A pleasure to read. Keep the blue waters flowing. LateBloomer

Aww, poor little pony. Your poem makes the reader feel sympathy for the poor pony, he deserves some company and a big hug, that's for sure. The rhyming scheme is great too.

I find this heart warming sonnet to be solidly rhymed and well written.
The repetition and internal rhyming are effectively employed.
An appropriate artwork selection is well complementing.
A worthy effort overall!

The phrases, "As they searched for steers together", "held a lope so steady", and "acting fast to spoken words" all told me you are experienced with horses before I read the author's notes. This is an interesting and well written piece because you made me, who is not experienced with horses, get what the older horses experienced in their prime, and after. It is a sad write, but a necessary one I think! I enjoyed this:)

A lovely sonnet Nancy for all the horse and pony lovers. My daughter used to come down the stairs in the morning saying, "I dreamed there was a pony in the pasture". It finally got to us and we bought her a horse named Duke. He was a great addition to the family.

Well done my friend.

Blessings
Janet
