A very well-written heartfelt and thought-provoking poem. I have no idea why, but my sister will not even come out of her room to greet me properly when I go to visit my mother who lives with her. I wish I know the reason why she is ignoring and avoiding me.

This really resonates with me. I love the storyline of your poem's message and the detailed description of the sister's lives...sometimes life does get in our way of spending time together and even just make a simple phone call. A well-written free verse.

None of us are ever promised a tomorrow, Nan. We simply assume that tomorrow will come.
But what if it doesn't? What if the brother or sister we promised to "call tomorrow" has a fatal accident or simply dies in their sleep?
The same could be said in reverse.
Parents, beloved relatives, good friends...why do we feel the need to procrastinate as it pertains to just dropping them a line to say "Hello!"
People will text each other in a heartbeat.
They'll get on Skype or Facebook and shoot the breeze. But those same people will rarely call.
We are quickly becoming a society of emotionally detached automatons.
So sad, really.

It's called procrastination. Putting off until tomorrow what you should do today. Too busy in our active lifestyles to keep in touch with those near and dear. We are all guilty and paybacks are hell. Well done Nan.:) Nancy

I really like how the narrator blames herself for many reasons--too much work, matrimony, motherhood, and mid-life crisis--while giving us a full story of a woman's life. This reader is so glad she finally made the call. Your themes of GUILT and REGRET come through loud and clear. And the free verse format was perfect for this kind of story-telling. Rod
