Hi Brett, I can understand why Cody hates his father so. Unfortunately his story may not be so unique as abuse to children happens all the time in one form or another. And tragically so. More the reason to be happy he's landed on his feet when he was adopted. Well writte. All the best. Ulla:))

Vivid description of what Cody's father put him through. It may well be that there other children of his age who received similar treatment, although not as much as Cody did. His father seems the embodiment of evil. As you think about this, you might want to consider the level of language Cody uses. If he is expressing himself as young Cody, I think some of the terms aren't in keeping with what a boy his age would use. Would he use expressions like "sperm donor" and "parental nurturing" don't sound right for a youth. If you are having Cody write about his childhood experiences when he's an adult, then it's another matter. A very chilling narrative. Just clarify the age. judi

I don't have any 6s left or I would give one to you. I do hope this is not biographical as it is too horrible to imagine. But sad I do know that many children live in this horror. There was a man here on fanstory who's father chained him to a tree naked all night in the pouring rain, would beat him horribly. He went without food and would take a paper bag with a rock in it to school so the kids wouldn't know. His teacher figured it out and brought an extra sandwich everyday for him. He wrote a book and cried. It was so awful. This is amazingly well written. I saw no errors and would not suggest any improvements as it is perfect and sad.

Glad you enjoyed this portion of Cody's story. After three books, and several short stories about Cody, I decided I needed to delve into the deteriorate relationship Cody and Earl Anthony Schroder had in Palo Pinto that my Cody books revolved from.

You may be surprised at my answer since I was horrifically abused as well
The pattern was the same. Isolated house with property, not allowed to
Have friends. Straight to school on the bus and back home the same way. Telling teacher who did not believe. Times were different. The child was never believed. So, my answer is no. He should not hate him. He should forgive him and then leave everything be. That is what I did. Thank you for sharing

Glad you enjoyed this portion of Cody's story. After three books, and several short stories about him, I decided it was time to detail the deteriorated relationship Cody and Earl Anthony Schroder had in Palo Pinto.

I did read this and appreciated your warnings, so I could be prepared for what I might read. I am not sure what to say. I don't recall reading any of your Cody stories recently, although I'm thinking I have read one some time ago.
Cody is correct. Being an alcoholic does not give any person a free ticket to being abusive. It's beyond deplorable and it makes my heart ache to know it goes on everywhere and people continue to turn a blind eye many times.
I found no errors or edits needed.

Glad you enjoyed this portion of Cody's story. Wanted to convey the deteriorated relationship between Cody and Earl Anthony Schroder since after three books, and several short stories written about Cody, I never had.

Yes, That picture of an adorable young boy is very familiar on FS. He brings a smile to my face every time I see him. No I don't blame Cody for hating his father. He has good reason. Why can't these abused children ask for help? Even tell their classmates who might tell an adult who would help. Good job Brett. God bless the abused children everywhere. Nancy

Decided it was about time I included a little something about Cody and Earl Anthony Schroder in Palp Pinto since I never had delved into that issue before, although three books, and several short stores, later perhaps I should have.

I am glad I ran across this one. I have read your work in the past. This short story kept the reader interested from the beginning until the end. Your introduction got my attention and it was worth me reading. I enjoyed thoroughly!
