I have a suggestion:
With a smile, I looked down at my happy dog leaping (maybe dog happily leaping?) around me in circles poking her nose into anything that crossed her path.

Hi Ulla,
Nightmares can be so disturbing and feel so real in the moment. I wonder what makes us have such vivid images when we sleep. It is a strange event that we can see and feel while we sleep. Very interesting.

Good contrast between the carefree feeling at the start of this and the sudden change of mood with the gunshot. Endings that say that it was all a dream are generally to be avoided though it does work reasonably well here.
