Yes, I agree with the sentiment in this verse, and certainly a writer should look inside oneself and decide what is the motive for my writing. I enjoyed learning about the sapphonic triad, Patty. Giddy

Quite an intriguing work, Patty. Poetry is incredible easy to write - but writing a good one takes both knowledge of certain rules, and a gift. There are millions of poet's in the world; the vast majority of which we will never hear of.

Hi; you are so right about no one hearing about the talented poets who write on napkins and bits of paper. They write for themselves - and maybe that's how it should be,

Chances are, Patty, if anyone recognizes our work, it will be long after we're gone.

I enjoyed this short poem about the art of poetry. You have a gift with poetry Patty, I always enjoy reading your poems. I don't think I'd be able to write one!

Hi Chloe; I think you could write poetry - as long as you are expressing yourself from your heart. The rules and structure are something that can be studied, but the words come from deep within,

Comment from Meia (MESAYERS)
I honestly don't believe in rules in poetry, although I studied them at university. Your poems are fantastic, however they are written. My rhyming schemes are often my own creation. I am cool with being criticised for that or looking ignorant because I know I am not. Keep doing what you do. You are amazing :) Kindest regards Meia xx

Hi Meia; thank you so much for your thoughts and compliments. There are some days when I think I should just stop writing poetry because it doesn't always come out -- what is a satori? Why do some people say I had a great one - while others complain there isn't one in my poem!
Maybe if I keep trying?

This Sapphonic Triad, Writing Poetry, follows the stated format and echoes the thoughts of many people who wonder first what poetry is and then, after writing, if THIS is poetry. One day we'll know.

Hi Bill; thank you so much for your thoughtful review. I often find myself wondering if the creation I've put on paper IS poetry.

Patty, here's the way I look at good poetry (or, for me, enjoyable poetry) - it's not cut and dried, form and scale, though meter is important in rhyming poetry. It should flow with feeling, skillfully bringing the reader into its meaning without struggle, no matter its length. I don't think there's such a thing as perfect poetry, though there is definitely horrid poetry. If you can engage the reader so that he/she gets wrapped up in it and doesn't want it to end, or when it does, the reader says, "wow!" , or laughs or cries- AND REMEMBERS IT - then to me, that's good poetry. Don't write it unless you feel it. Oh, and you've got to really like it, yourself. natcherly! :)
This is just my opinion, you understand. hope you don't think I was trying to be miss know-it-all.

Hi there; thank you so much for sharing your thoughts - I agree with what you said. The most important thing is to write from your heart AND like you wrote - enough to send it out into the world,

Darned if I know. lol
This is a very good sapphonic triad. Certainly thought-provoking.
I think forms and meter can be learned, but the substance must come from within. Everyone is different. Even some of the most famous poets have pieces that I didn't like. It's a personal preference how a poem is interpreted, I think. While there's some criticism for not adhering to requirements of the form, it's the meaning that really counts. 8-)
See? Darned if I know. lol

Hi there; I have to agree with you. I've read poems that are famous - and wondered, 'why?' And then, I can cry over the sentiments expressed in greeting cards!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts,

You written a good poem.
It inspires the reader.
I especially like the quote: "Poetry...the deepest abyss of infinity." Sally Ann Roberts
The image shown is just right for this poem. The background goes well with the picture and color of font chosen.

I'm not so good with rules either. I think the ability to write is a gift. The rules are learned, or in my case, not. Perhaps when I retire I'll have the time to learn them.
