I am totally intrigued now, and must continue on to read the next installment. The story is down to earth, and much like anything that can happen in real life, with the same thoughts and feelings about in-laws. The tension builds from knock on the door to discovering the check, which then begins a guessing game in the reader's mind, until it is finally confirmed what is about to take place. Good plot... carry on.

I love this story. It is filled with great quality and it is realistic. It is mysterious and serious. When I get letters or phone calls I say What? too. The color of the letter was just right. I look forward to the next one. Thanks

What a surprise letter, in more ways than one. Out of it all, the only thing that Kathy ever wanted was for her to love her. Is it too late? What will happen at the will reading, it sounds like it's going to be fun! Wonderful writing and I can't wait to read the next part. :) Sandra xx

Hi Sandra; thank you so much for your kind and thoughtful review of this piece. Kathy and her mother-in-law are interesting characters, and they banged around in my head for weeks before I finally started writing their story. I hope you will continue on through the rest of the story,

Hi; LOL - I'm not Kathy! She is the main character in this fictional piece, but I'm glad you felt the story was real.

I've posted the second part this morning, and I hope you will follow along on this wild ride. Thanks for reading,

Good morning, Patty

Great flow, pace and continuity. You immediately bring the reader into the story. with a great hook. Your character's feelings, thoughts and her range of emotions towards her mother-in-law were spot on. Enjoyed.

Out of sixes.

Take care and stay safe,

Ray

Good morning Patty,

First, I want to say that my favorite line is this one: Her familiar perfume assaulted my nostrils. (lol)

but...

I was taken back when I read the rest of your story. At first I felt sad that she waited until she was dead to express her admiration and love for you. By the time I finished reading it, I was just happy for that she made sure to let you know how she really felt even if she did it the way she did. The main thing to me is that she trusted you even more than her children. She knew that she could depend on you no matter what the relationship was like when she was alive.

My second husband was so extremely abusive, an evil man but the one blessing that I did get from that marriage was that my mother in law was a real mother and best friend to me. She always expressed her gratitude, love and trust of me. Yes, she did depend on me and trust in me more that some of her own children. She was a real blessing to me in a really bad time of my life and what is more...we really needed each other. We were each other's blessing.

I so wish you shared this with your mother-in-law bit God knows how much we can bear. You were so strong and she realized that so she didn't feel you needed her. I on the other hand, well, God knew that I needed a mother and a best friend, someone who was showing me true love and attention. I sincerely prayed for true love, anyone to truly love me. God was not only saying to me that he truly loved me but he provided me with what I needed and asked for in my mother in law and also my Aunt Barbara.

My heart is with you and this is an exceptional write. I am happy for you today.

Hi Tier; this was a work of total fiction. While it IS true, I would have loved to hear these words from my mother-in-law, nothing like this has ever happened in real life. No, this is a tale born of my dreams and nightmares. Its been almost fifteen years since I had to be in the room with my sisters-in-law, and I've already decided that when my mother-in-law does die, I will NOT be at the funeral.

Thank you for sharing your story with me; I just had to learn to live without a mother figure in my life. I modeled my own motherhood after the role models on TV.

I appreciate you stopping by to read,

Hi Marv; thank you so much for the lovely review of this story. I'm working on the second part right now, and I hope some of your questions are answered. I'm not entirely sure how many parts it will take to tell the whole story.

This has the earmarks of an exciting story, I'll look forward to the next installment. But fiction can sometimes cover fact. Why won't people tell others when they do something right? Quick to heap blame slow to praise. Just a 'well done.' Would do. Sincerely Anne.
