HI Nancy, some cowboys dies, and other just fade away. My girl, you will never fade away. You and your silky-rhyming poetry will forever remain with me. You are still the Queen of Rhyme.

Your poem reads and flows well, and your message is clear. Of note:

There's peace in the valley o'er yonder I'm told,
together we'll reach it some day.

(It may take a while longer for some of us, someone like me.)

Lovely complementary photo choice. Well done.
How are you doing and feeling. Xo. M

This sounds like an ole cowpoke would talk. Meter is good, and rhyme perfect. Love the picture. Yes, horses were very important to a man like this. His horse was like a pet somewhat.

Cowboys are certainly a different breed for the most part, and growing up on the thoroughbred race track circuit, I've known and befriended plenty of them throughout the last 60 years or so. Thanks for sharing.

Lovely poem. I could visualise the old cowboy speaking through your words, with gentle humour and a light metre. Well rhymed. An enjoyable read. Wendy

This is fun! Love the colloquialisms which give a real sense and meaning to your verse. It jogs along in such regular (up)beat and is magically in-keeping with the movement of the horse. Great job! Thanks for sharing Nancy. Debbie

The best I've read in so many wayssince returning to FS. Your rhythm and rhyme scheme are impeccable and your humor spot on and gentle. Having lived in Wyoming 'on the range' for many years I didn't personally need the great illustration you chose, but it fits so well. Thanks so much for posting...and if you are ready for the Great Roundup, I do believe that your horse will fly with you.
Blessings

What a wonderful compliment, Roberta. Thank you so much. I'm sure you do know what it is all about, at home on the range that is. LOL Have a wonderful day. Hugs. Nancy:)

Thanks for sharing this poem from 2016! Even though our worldly possessions may not be much, we know our spiritual rewards will be greater because the Lord won them for us.

Good to see your post, Nancy. Hope you are doing well. ð???

Like the old cowboy, I am plugging along. I hope you are well.
My eyesight is giving me hell. My hearing is going too, so I have days of depression. I look forward to cloudy days., I can see better then. I am alone in a crowded room if I don't have my hearing aides in and I don't unless I am expecting company. Thanks for the review and stars Helen. Big hug. Nancy:)

I'm so glad to see that you put that midnight musing into a poem. It was pure joy to read - you are always right on when it comes to country ideals and life.

Just a could of very small nits:
My pokes [poke's] mostly empty (add an apostrophe for that possessive of poke)
the horses [horse's] back's showing some sway (same here for horse)

Regards,
Rose.

Thank you Rose. I guess that Horse thing can go either way I have had back and forth suggestions on that and started out with yours. Changed it later. Missed the poke's one though. Thanks. (So did all those guys.) LOL Have a wonderful weekend love. Hugs. Nancy

You had it right the first time. The cowpoke is only talking about his horse - and not all horses. At least that's the way I read it. R.

Love the association with the horse and understanding if he's not going, I'm not either. Good read, brought a smile to my face for sure. It may have been your muse who gave you this poem, but I think deep inside their someone who understands 'cowboys.'
