This is one writer's opinion of what is wrong with the United States today, however, no viable solutions are suggested.

The November problem is that on one hand you have the email scandal, and on the other you have someone who will probably do well with economics but the jury remains out on the other issues.

Question is which side is the way to go?

For the last 8 years those who voted for Obama got exactly what they asked for.

So why are they now complaining about all the damage he has done to the United States?

If one studied American History they would see by our own actions that "The Land of the Free and the Brave has never existed." This is very well written with a smooth flow of words, making for a very good read.

All the money you made
Will never buy back your soul
One of the best quotes ever.

Thanks for sharing about your background. I think your experiences in life have given you great insight. You are a bit older than I realized (and I am) so you have a better historical perspective as well. A very good write, my friend~Debbie

I just dumped a half-page rant in this box, then decided what the Hell and sat down on the backspace key. Good luck on your campaign, you'll need it. Fivers.

Hmm, interesting personal account, but honestly, I am a little confused. You mention the kindness of strangers, the potential overcrowding of the planet, and the creation of a permanent 'heavy' arms industry. Yet, to what end are these observations? Kindness is nice. Should something be done about the growing population? If so. What?

Is there a logical necessary reason for a permanent arms industry? Like a smaller world, more enemies or lessons learned from the last WW?

Bob Dylan's songs are great. Thanks for sharing that one. I;d heard it before, but it's always good to read again, as the same issues are still true.

Your essay is well penned and drew me right in. It's clever to open with a personal anecdote like that...gets the reader involved and then you can deliver the meaty substance of the write once they are hooked! Good trick!

One nit:

By now, television had become a common household appliance(,) and I can remember some of it.

One suggestion (even though it's a quote):

Mahometan is a western term for Mohammedan - and the latter is more respectful, so i suggest changing the spelling.

I enjoyed hearing your immigrant-experience.
Great insights, details and depth in this. Good pacing and sentence mechanics too.

Warm Regards,
rd

Excellent, excellent, excellent. Well stated. Not only is it brilliantly written, you have found unique references in it that I have never seen before. Where did you come up with those Tripoli Treaty quotations? Remarkable!

There are some punctuation niceties that need cleaning up. Essentially, you need to repeat the opening quotation mark at the beginning of each graf (but not the closing mark) when a quote runs on for more than one graf. So that long quote by Eisenhower needs an opening quotation mark at each graf. So does the Adams quote. My advice on the song lyrics is to take out the quote marks. They're lyrics. People understand that they're lyrics.

I am thrilled to have six stars to give you.
