Hi Barb,
Well you certainly know how to search and find interesting history about Texas..
I like how this history weaves into your story about Soni and Jim

Hi there,

More history being unveiled for the two brothers in their appropriation of the ranch. Good interplay here between the three characters.

My Child, be patience - should this be 'be patient'?

You are correct, it should be. I am about ready to dispense with the Texas history, but only for a while. Thank you for the continued support.

I've learned it takes more than talent to be a published author. It takes hard work, technical understanding, and luck. Your writing skill touches on moments I can appreciate...the little things. For ex:

(1) "Soni's eyes widened as she spoke."

(2) Jim skimmed the family journal. "Says here," he ran his finger under the words, "they arrived in February 5, 1933."

(3) "Not everybody's as impatient as you." Grandfather's eyes met hers.

Just a few examples. I just started writing seriously in 2015. I'm learning to become a better writer by writing here on Fanstory and reading the works of writers like you.

Thank you for sharing your art!

Texas could become a separate country again if it wanted to. I'd move there in a minute to get away from this crazy government. Trump? Hillary? I'm gagging at the thought of either one, so we're quite doomed, I'm afraid.

Makes sense that East Texas did better, because of Louisiana's port and lack of Comanches. So... where DID the extra acreage come from?

Texas brought Cruz. He is no good, he's actually very sleazy. I may move to Canada. Want to join me? LOL Thank you for the kind review.

I've got my eye on Switzerland. You never hear of unrest there... all nice and peaceful... pretty too.

One thing I see that needs fixing on this installment. I'm receiving a refresher course in Texas history from reading this. As I didn't grow up in Texas, what I learned was on my own and while studying at UT Austin.

conveniences we have today. My Child, be patience - change to read - conveniences we have today, my child. Be patient.

Once again, given that my mother's side of the family hails from East Texas, I find this chapter informative and entertaining. These last several chapters are geared towards history buffs and genealogists. I like how your characters explain things not only to each other, but also to a reader. You make family history fascinating. Unlike Soni's line, "I just want this mystery solved," I enjoy how you prolong the mystery as long as possible by laying our your evidence.

Spags:

"Says here," he ran his finger under the words, "they arrived in February 5, 1933."

The date should be 1833.

Omit comma in the middle of "in name, only."

Omit apostrophe here, too: "Both men covered their mouths' to hide . . ."

Thank you for sharing, for entertaining, and for informing.

I will make the corrections. Thank you for the catches. No matter how much I edit, I read what should be there and not what's really there.

A good continuation of a good story. I love stories that combine historical
fact within the story line. I know it's hard to carve time out to write but
you are a good writer, am enjoying following it.

Jury duty. Maybe they will send you home right away. I get out of it due to some memory problems from my health conditions. My doctor just has to send a note to the courthouse. I hope you get that extra time, my friend~Debbie

The focus who owns the ranch.
The story line development: shows how the land in Texas changed hands often. How Gunter talked Dieter into buying some land deeds offered from Sam Houston. There is still no evidence of where the 125,000 acres was bought from.
The dialog is clear and tells more about the characters.
The narration shows Soni becoming impatient.
The readers are pulled forward with the suspense of knowing if Soni owes all of the ranch and how the last 125,000acres was purchased and by whom.
Keep on writing.

Austin pulled the big double cross to Mexico causing the Republic of Texas to be born. Now came maturity with fighting for existence. You have done your homework, Barbara, my congratulations. Still an interesting write.
