Nancy, very well done. What a message you've given
us to think about. To me that's the best thing about
poetry is the message. I'm not great at knowing much
about the meter. Great job on the rhyming.

The message is very important. So many poems ramble on and you have no idea what they are saying. I appreciate the excellent rating and the comments. Have a nice weekend Judy! Nancy

I don't know about keeping that tree as a warning for others - my jury is out on this one. I think of this tree's past being one of anger and terror and I have to wonder how many innocents died there. I wouldn't want to be anywhere near it, the vibes must be palpable. So, you certainly got me thinking, and that indicates a great story. Good one! Kelly

It would be a crime to cut down an ancient oak tree. A lot of evil also took leave there so I think the town voted for the good when they spared the tree. Thanks for the comments kelly. Have a nice weekend. Nancy

Hi, Nancy

_ The hanging tree with the ground beneath soaked in tears.
_ Indeed--even the name, Jubilee, right out of an old western. (*<*)
_ I enjoyed the read. Your author's notes really add to it upon leaning this is a real hanging tree. Ooooh.
_ Hope you have a great weekend.

Cheers & Blessings
Keep Smilin'... Jax (*:*)

Such a great tale in the tree of infamy. Wonderfully written in rhymes gives it a light touch to a very heavy subject. My best to that wise new sheriff in town.

Hi, Nancy,

This is a great little story in a poem!

You can see why they picked the tree in the picture you picked...that's a good branch.

It would make a great branch to hang a swing from, also:)

You deliver this tale in you usual fine rhyme and meter which always allows me to involve myself with the theme.

Always a pleasure, Nancy!
Bill

Hi Nancy! I love the way you write these deliciously long lines with multi-syllabic words and it all flows beautifully due to the divine meter and rhyme. Great enjambment as well. You're a master when it comes to these rhyming/meter forms. Very impressive! Sue

This is quite and eerie story in your poem, Nancy - It reminds me of an old film called "Hang Them High", with
Clint Eastward starring - he's strung up by five men for supposedly stealing cattle and killing the owner, but he had
a bill of sale - signed by a con-man. He was taken down by a sheriff and he actually survived. The true culprit was found and so he was set free and became a sheriff himself and went after each man lawfully... but the major/judge of the town was a "hanging judge" cold and heartless,
hanging men for the simplest of crimes.

Your poem is perfectly written - words, rhythm and rhyme
flowing smoothly throughout. Most impressive,my friend.

Margaret

Lately, we've been watching a lot of the old movies on TCM - some great ones. Some of the new ones are all f'ing and gruesome murders, that we give up watching within 10 mins. A waste of precious time.

Good story poem about a chilling theme. You described the story well and left no room for misunderstanding. I think I'd like to see the thing chopped down and a memorial put in its place. However, I think I understand the reasoning for leaving it there.

I would much rather have a big beautiful tree than a concrete memorial.

I guess, those townsfolk all knew about ghosts coming back to haunt, so they decided to keep the tree. Great story line, Nancy, and excellent rhyming. Guess you are still having computer problems, I will write to you later. Most enjoyable, Faye

More like the relatives might come back for revenge. LOL Yes. I am on edge every minute I am on line. I wrote a sonnet the other day and before I could transfer it to FS the computer said Goodbye And sent it into oblivian. Gerrrr. I was close to tears. Then I couldn't get back on. Thanks for the review. TTYL. Nancy
