I guess the meaning is not in this picture, although the shiver that the cat shows is obvious. For me a shiver is a sign of fear, terror, and having no spine...well obviously means timid ,a little of a shy one, not to mention a harder expression. Put them together. You have not a likeable picture.

Hi...Great effort for this Senryu and meaningful word play to accompany the image. I'm having trouble though understanding the context of the word play as far as translating, "If I had a spine." We all have spines though unless you mean that you don't get scared. Is this right? Good luck and cheers.

As you were writing this poem did you picture a cat? Or did the picture fit the words you were trying to explain? I only ask because without the picture I would not have ever imagined a cat. Sometimes I feel that pictures take away the reader's freedom to imagine what comes naturally as they go through the poem. Good luck in the contest.
