Nancy this is another good read. A story very well told in good rhyme. You do this kind of poem very well indeed. Now this is one story I did know - How Jesse was killed I mean. But you have filled me in on even more of the lives of those men. They were a tough lot, but shooting in the back, even back then was frowned upon, especially shooting an unarmed man. Who knows! I saw the film as a child, and Tyrone Power was Jesse. Great story well told in good rhyme. Warm regards Dorothy x

excellent use of rhyming couplets
how convenient that Howard and coward rhyme LOL
good use of enjambment to keep the story flowing from line to line
good alliteration in phrases like robberies and raids
good assonance in laid it in plain
what a dramatic and appropriate death for a man who would shoot another in the back

Don't you find it odd that people were more upset that Robert Ford killed Jesse James, a notorious outlaw, than they ever were about Jesse James and the horrible acts he and his gang committed. Great poem. I knew about Robert Ford, but I never knew what happened to him after his notorious act. Great poem and story. Gretchen

Yes! but it was the myth that he was a Robin Hood which I can guess was only half truth. They were outlaws pure and simple all of them including the Ford brothers. I didn't know about Bob and Charlie either. I Googled them. I love American History. Thanks for the review Gretchen. Nancy

G'day Nancy, you are so good at these poetic western stories you should put them in a book mate. This is such an interesting read and beautifully presented piece. But sadly the picture didn't come up when I read it, I love old pictures. Cheers Fez

Nancy; an excellent old story told again about the killing of Jesse James by Robert Ford. And also an excellent written piece of poetry over story within a poem. Each rhyming word was contingent to the meaning and concept of each line which to me is a very important and necessary ingredient in making rhymes. The rhythmic tempo, meter headache, cadence and timing all were very helpful in making the reading clear, fluid and easy. I really appreciated your authors notes which are many facts I wasn't aware of and didn't know. Thank you for sharing and posting and may the good Lord be with you always.

Another good true tale in a poem. Where did this one come from? How do you know so much about history of the Old West? Just from living out there?

The Coward, indeed Jesse James was a very wanted and famous outlaw, those were the wild west days. I enjoyed reading the history story, God bless you, Hugs! Lakeport.

Hi, Nancy,

Good stuff. No matter how many times a person reads/ watches what happened to Jessie James, it never gets old.

Interesting notes. Have a great evening.

Cheers & Blessings

Wow, that picture shows somebody so young! He looks like a kid!

What a poem, Nancy - and then those notes - just fabulous entertainment, and as always, delivered in impeccable style. Great cadence to this poem, and wonderful rhyme and near-rhyme.

He was young, twenty years old when he committed the murder. Thirty when he was murdered. Kelly the man who murdered Ford was convicted of Bob Fords murder and given a twenty year sentence in the Colorado Penetentury but was eleased after ten years. Two years later,Jan. 1904, Kelly was shot down in the streets of Oklahoma City by Lawmen. Thanks Dawn. Nancy

Honeycomb: I like history stories. You delivered a great story in a poem with facts and personalities of the criminals. All for the love of money in the wild west. Who do you trust? A sawed off shotgun got the best of Bob Ford and his guilt. Keep warm this winter!
