A very enjoyable story, and written in a way that makes it sound like a true story. I am enjoying it very much.
I'm not sure about offering editing suggestions. A few very small things were apparent, but I want to know first if you want tips. I find that many FS writers don't or they tell me they have a paid editor, so I'm learning to ask first. You tell your story very well and I'm anxious to read the rest of it.

I do enjoy the feedback. After I have posted on FS and made all those corrections, I do pay an editor to make the final corrections, but I try to make it as good as I can before.

This is really heating up to be an interesting western romance and the chapter with the right hunt or clue as to what should be expected in the next post. I will look forward to thenext chapters of course.

Well written work. There are not nearly enough writers that write this way, and I miss it. I'm from Texas too. I lived outside of Austin in the Smithville area. We had forty acres in the middle of three other large ranches, woods all around our property. I can't tell you how many times we found empty water jugs and cans of food, even old clothes that they used to sleep on, in the woods on our place. We had 3 horses and a few cows, they would let us know when we had company around our barn. I eventually got a couple of Rottweilers to protect the house. My husband worked out of town a lot and me and my 5 small children were alone more times than not. One night in particular, before I got my big dogs, my little dog needed to go out to use the bathroom, so I thought. It was already dark and when she went outside she barked like I had never her do before. I went outside to check and heard our metal garbage can fall, then a dark shadow passed by a small garage that we had, with a dim outside light on it. I knew it was a person, so I grabbed my dog and ran inside, locked my doors and called the Sheriff's office. I locked me and my kids in my bedroom and got my 9 millimeter out of its case and waited for them to arrive. A good 45 minutes later they did and upon investigation of the woods right by my house, they found evidence of illegal alien camping and a trail that led through the side and back of our property. Next day, I got the dogs and had no problems up by my house anymore. Keep up the work, I want to read the whole story.

A mountain lion! Not good news. I wouldn't want to camp out with those things roaming around. I'd go to the shack for sure. Good chapter... eager to read on. :)

I think the relationship between your two major characters is about to get serious, and I can't wait to follow on and see what happens. I really enjoyed the drama in the middle of the story and look forward to enjoying the romance, Giddy

Hello

I liked the intrigue in the beginning ("I wonder who he really is.")

The encounter with the rattlesnake and the danger of being stalked by a mountain lion has the reader waiting for the unexpected.

"Didn't he say he was a retired Marine?"
"Yeah, but is anybody ever an ex-Marine?" Loved this.

Excellent dialogue and character interaction.

Take care and stay safe,

Ray

Yes, that is a lovely image of a cougar. Your chapter is well written as usual. The idea of eating rattlesnake is daring. The danger would be in the preparation, chopping the head off, without touching the fangs. The poor horse has been ridden too hard, with bleeding sides like that, it will either hate spurs forever or become stubborn. Modern riding spurs don't make horses bleed, but I suppose western ones could. An enjoyable chapter.

The focus is getting back home. The storyline development they discover the shot they heard Soni had shot a snake. Alex takes his horse and Mack in his truck, after the agents take the thieves away. Soni and Jim leave on the horses, while Butkus takes Midnights reins in his mouth. Jim discovers they only tolerate each other. Storm clouds appear and both hope they can avoid any storms. They stop to make camp and give Butkus a rest. When speaking to Alex she finds out that Mack needed 38 stitches, she tells Alex that a mountain lion has followed them for the last hour. Alex gives her the coordinates to her fathers shack which is two hours away.
The dialogue is clear but the spoken word has drawn a clear mental picture. The narrative shows action Soni tossing the snake she shot in the bush. Midnight kicking behind himself when Butkus took his reins.
The emotions I felt joy that so far all is right.
The hook will the snake come back to bite them and just how bad is the storm?
The tension continues to run through-out.
..."He says he('s) from New York City.
Keep on writing.

Barbara, I love how the tension eases then builds right up again. We had over 14 inches of something white and cold. Today I have diamond dust covering everything. Walk in the shadow of God. *o* Rita

I like it a lot. I haven't been reading from the beginning, but starting to get the jest of it. I have been eating rattlesnake, and it is delicious. Looking forward to read more.

great chapter I love how Jim seems a little lost and Soni has taken charge. This is her territory and he has to rely on her now. A little added excitement with the mountain lion following them. I had an encounter with one when I was a teenager, very scary, lucky for me it wasn't hungry, also had a grizzly bear destroy our campsite the first time I took my husband camping in Montana, our dogs scared him off though.

Thanks for sharing your story with us, I'm really enjoying it.
