Exceptional
This work has reached the exceptional level

School bullies, in person, and using social media, have joined to attack all that are not part of the "Pack/Pact," mentality.

With no visible broken bones, open wounds, or blood, most victims are without any support, as they live the perpetual nightmare.

Many young people change their normal appearance to look menacing and powerful; backed by a pack of mindless enforcers, they punish all who do not conform by joining the gang, and provide financial or other benefits to the group; they emulate the behavior of prisons gangs that control inmates.

Feeling short of breath, I vicariously lived the torment of your protagonist, who could be any one of us, or one of our children. We must fight back, and punish the bullies.

Schools need mentor programs to help young people understand that they must resist embracing any of the labels that the pack tries to plant in the mind of the victim.

Your wonderful story should be placed on a banner in the cafeteria, a copy on the desk of the principal; we can also use social media and fight back. Once the focus is on individual gang members, they will flee from the light, like the vampires they are, seeking to suck the life out of the vulnerable.

Keep writing, keep fighting, you are a leader.

Excellent poem. Writing with a message. Lines rhymed good with lines.
HE WAS INVISIBLE TO MOST
NO ONE SEEMED TO EVEN CARE
ABOUT THE HELL THAT HE WAS IN
OR HIS WIDE- AWAKE NIGHTMARE

Well written about being bullied to death. There is a way out, mom didn't listen or help...one way with Jesus...no matter who you are. Kids have so much drama. In our high school, the kids are going to parties with drugs and alcohol. The other choice is to go to a house and learn about Jesus. More and more are attending the house of hope. Jesus is on the move Now in our town and yours. Have a blessed Christmas.

I think this is also a consequence of parents misguidedly requiring their kids go and "face their fears" when the fear and abuse is just too overwhelming. You don't have the benefit of perspective at that age so it amounts to nothing more than interminable torture...not exactly conducive to learning, either. There are self esteem issues at play here for both the perpetrators and their victims.

Very sad tale of bullying indeed, author. Even with all our bullying awareness programs it still goes on and even worse than ever now. It always has a tragic end that you foretold with accuracy.

Great job with this.

Violence begets violence. Somehow our American society has gone mad and refuses to regulate guns. Not everybody can get a drivers license, neither should they be able to get a gun. Bullying is a sickness. That person needs help, and to figure out what's missing in his/her life. Well done! Les

This is so very sad...I never was bullied in my life...but my sister was...no problem...I punch a football player for her...he never did it again...it's so wrong...but people need to listen when they are being told...and help those that need help...some kids are not fighters...just kids...very well told story...and very well written...Luff Linda xxoo

I can't remember the name of the tune, I think it is "Jeremy", a moving song about bullying and a kid who made a similar choice. You have done Eddie Vedder (singer and lyricist) proud.

Oh, very well done to rhyme this so well and tell the story at the same time. It is a tragic story made worse by the fact that it is true in some instances. We were so innocent when I was a child. The savagery of some of the young today is hard to fathom, Giddy

Does it really have to go down in history like this? Why is there so much hurt and hate in this world? This is really good. Thanks for sharing and good luck in the contest.
