A very impressive sonnet. I plan to keep track of it to use as an example the next time I try a sonnet myself. Congratulations on a well deserved win! Best wishes.

Congratulations on this well-deserved win, Ron.
We can all associate with this lack of inspiration theme at times, and your sailing metaphor captures it perfectly in poetic form.
Faultless pentameter and top perfect/near rhymes.
To supplement the 'sails', I guess we all need an engine as back-up. :-)
Top sonnet!
Best wishes, Ted

Congratulations on your recent win, and this sonnet makes clear how it happened. With imaginative phrases and concepts, you have shown that the muse doesn't produce every time she is summoned. At the same time, she cannot appear, at all, unless your sails are set. Very well done, and thanks -

Super entry. I think the choice of photo/illustration is extremely appropriate. Nice work on meter. I guess the word 'pondering' could be scanned more than one way. Congratulations on winning the sonnet contest.

Congratulations again. Another first place winner and a beautiful poem too. I always love to read writing poems, and often can't resist writing them as well. The sustained metaphor throughout this poem makes it especially appealing and of course the sonnet form, the perfect rhymes and unflagging iambic pentameter make this a total delight from beginning to end. Well done!

Congratulations on your sonnet contest win :-) Your rhymes are strong and in good English sonnet format, and your use of consistent iambic meter makes for good cadence when read aloud. Excellent use of enjambment keeps the thoughts flowing from line to line.
Nice alliteration in woes of windless
strong use of consonance in waves my vessel
a thoughtful use of imagery to explore the nature of the creative writing process and the rule of inspiration. Brooke

I think that you chose a beautiful photograph to evoke the mood of the poem. The beginning starts out with such hope of new vistas and discoveries. Like the windless days, often our dreams and realities are stalled as life intervenes. I like your ending; it conveys the feeling that as long as there is life we have that spark to find the unknown treasure within or around us.
