Your written the rhythm was done very well in float very smoothly which made it easy for me to read your poem clearly.
Your rhyming couplet is for neither forced, labored or strained. And for believe it or not I felt a little sorry for old Sammy. Thanks for the read and sharing in posting this for others. May you in yours be blessed.

So you've left some mystery in the end. We could write this either way as to who has Sam's soul. Maybe someone good, or maybe someone not so good depending on how you interpret the poem. Another great post. Thanks for sharing.

This poem is very good. Perhaps, it is kind of a pipe dream. I wish giving up addiction in favor of life could work that way (I have a dear, life-long friend who has struggled for decades with addiction, and she cannot make the choice to stop for good -- it will be the end of her). I really like your smooth, unforced rhymes and steady, fluid meter. This is a fine write. Cheers! Steph
