A great parody of the Clement Moore poem - and a lesson to us all. Very well written and I liked your version very much. How many inappropriate presents are exchanged each Christmas and shoved in a drawer somewhere? The money spent on these 'gifts' would be better given to a charity. Send a Christmas card and name the charity you have gifted instead of a pressy? Regards Dorothy

Dorothy, thank you so very much :-) That is what we do in my church - we work with an Alternative Gift non profit that publishes a brochure of three dozen donations one can make in the name of the gift recipient, things like bicycles for kids in Haiti and chickens for farmers in Cambodia and food pantry donations for communities in Appalachia :-) I very much appreciate your generous and gracious response to this poem :-) Brooke

Hi Brooke - We do something similar in the family - in our greetings cards we name the charity to whom we have sent money in lieu of presents - then we all look for a present for no more than £5 from a charity shop to give one another just to add a bit of excitement to the day. Let's face it, when you look round the world at how some are living in dire poverty, we've reached a point where we neither need nor want anything so the money may as well go to a good cause. 'bye Dorothy -

This is a very well written quatrain poetry with flowing rhythm and a smooth rhyming scheme. The meter is imaculate and it also has a very beautiful message
about the joy of giving, which is should have at Christmas time. Thank you for sharing this with us. Well done!

I don't know if this actually happened but kudos. I almost didn't read this because I'm over the Christmas stuff but I'm so glad I read this. I'm just in awe. I hope more people read this and develop the generosity you speak of. Wonderful, wonderful job

ExperiencingLiphe, no, that did not actually happen, but I'm glad it seemed real enough that you thought that possible :-) Thank you so much for your generous review. Brooke

As always you introduce your piece with deft strokes and your phrases with panache. It is easy to recognize your love for the English language. I am charmed by your fourth verse; with the introduction of the old man. It gave an added dimension to the poem without sentiment. This piece is a fitting introduction to a creative New Year. -Ekim777
