An excellent reflection on life's wins and losses, and the intent to forget the losses. Very well expressed. I imagine you're capable of writing a poem on virtually any subject.

A lovely free style expression of reflection as another year draws closer to an end.
Time to release the old, faded and jaded thoughts and,
through inspiration,find fresh and positive thoughts instead.

Great poem. the shadow in the water caught my attention. Was the shadow the old past or the new beginning? I was fascinated by this line:
"In the corners of my mind
I'll frequently find
in a nook
where I'd look
are the secret pleasures that I took
in full measure
little pleasures
as my memories unwind"
My interpretation of this is past pleasures which you cherished on reflection now were of little moment in the greater realm of things. Am I right?

Just some random thoughts? I wish my random thoughts were this brilliantly conceived, Tom! For to see are for it can not because... those are more like my random thoughts, ha ha!
This is a "free verse", but it also rhymes. I found that nice, and interesting. I labeled a rhyming poem a free verse once, and got my you-know-what ripped for it. The reviewer very cruelly told me that free verse, while occasional rhymes are incidental, is not supposed to rhyme. Really? Who says free verse can't rhyme?
Anyhow, I thought this was excellent, a testament to looking back at past mistakes, changing them and learning from them, then starting fresh and new.
Nicely done!

Thank you Dean. A free verse poem that rhymes is called a free style poem. A true free style shouldn't rhyme. Appreciate your great input.

My pleasure, Mr. 'T'...

Difficult to believe we are at another year's end;
Thoughts left behind from the old year we utilize to begin a new year;
A well-penned poem echoing the sentiments of many.

Great set of random thoughts, kind of like the picture of a bird as it picks through the water hopeing for a catch. Nice picture for a first time with a new camera I wish mine would have been so good. Thanks for sharing. Have a great day.
