Those old Grave Yards. How many wives and dead children some men had. Most women died in childbirth or gave birth to still born babies for various reasons. Then there were a few women who laid to rest several husbands. We used to go visit old grave yards in Illinois AND Nevada. Very interesting. Thanks for the review Roy. Nancy:)

That was such a story of courage end endurance despite the heartbreak of losing the four children. These pioneers paved the way for building the west. They were willing to take risks and venture into this unknown territory, with God's guidance. You do a beautiful job of telling the story of the George family in your poem. Excellent rhyme and flow. judi

Settling out in the west like Oregon takes a lot of getting used to. It is way different from city life. Everyone traveling together hoping for a new beginning. Sacraficing life and limb along the way. Ir wasn't easy fighting floods losing so much ending up with little left to get by on.

This is a well written, historic poem. Your poem gives us insight of the struggles the pioneers endured venturing out in the West. Your poem reads well. Very nice job.

Beautifully written and full of history. We can't know the hardships and terrors these people faced. They were certainly heroes who found a way west despite all that happened to them. Very interesting author notes.

He should have known that river would flash flood. To build a home on an Island in the middle of a river was not very wise. Thanks for the review and stars, Yvonne. Have a great day. Nancy:)

Nancy, wow. What a story poem. You could have entered
this in the share a story in a poem contest. That is
so amazing and so heart rending for this family.
Pioneers had so much suffering. I'm so thankful for
those who went before us and paved a better way for us.

Nancy, what a tale you tell here! You've taken a piece of history and woven it into a fine poem - or possibly even into a folk song. It tells a sad story, but reads lyrically and could be set to music. You've caught the strength and courage it must have taken to move west, facing all of the expected difficulties, and then suffering the worst of every parent's nightmares - the thing that it seems one could never overcome. And, yet, the story of life goes on and healing begins. Very well done.

Judy

It is amazing how much the early settlers endured and the pain of so much loss suffered. This is an interesting but sad story. So many stories that we can uncover when looking for our family history. Very well written. Thanks for sharing.
