I do not like spiders in any shape, size, or colors. They are just bad, all of them.
I really enjoyed reading your short story. My kitty helps take care of spiders, since she pounces on anything that moves.

You know how to write horror. I'm particually unnerved by spiders and especially those big ones. Now, I'll probably have nightmares tonight. I'd rather face snakes than spiders. Anyway, I have to admit, it is good writing.

Hi Susan,

I hate spiders so much I can hardly stand to look at the picture you chose. I keep a can of poison spray handy and am always ready to do battle. The first time I see one I know it is time to spray all the nooks and crannies again. It is getting cold here and I know those ugly beasts will want to get in my house (ugh) you wrote this story so well it gave me the chills. Your ending was unexpected and it made my skin crawl (pardon the pun) Well done....blessings, chey

Yikes! I'm not a spider lover, they give me the heebie-jeebies, as you well did with your story. Poor Miss Gates and Pusskin. I cringe for them. Well written story with great characterization. You should have entered it in a spooky story contest :) Marcia

Contented slurping sounds (I love this line and it is so visual, but above you said 'cat chow' would be coming, which I interpreted to mean the crunchy stuff? Just wondering :) )

"O(H)h!" This time, one of the dark spiders,(did you intend this spelling, punctuation, or is Evil Eddie at work?)

Hi Marcia! Me too...I have killed many this fall. SO ugly. Oh, Lord. As for the catfood, my cat slurps no matter what I give her! I have to leave the room. Odd! Thank you for reading this! xoxo, susan

Oh the short-term vision of modern man. Doctors prescribe antibiotics for every little malady and now germs are resistant to them. Will not the same thing happen with spiders, as you suggest? Scary thought. I enjoyed your development of the character and her cat.

HI ! Yes, I know, because our horses need flyspray in the summer...and each year we have to mix the solution a bit stronger to ward off the biting flies. So, why not spiders? I don't know!? Fun to use tho! Thank you for this super review!! I am thrilled you liked it! :) Susan

Hi Ingrid! They are huge, or can be. I saw one in the cabin that was my mother's childhood home once that was the exact size of my hand..he was an old one!! They can live to be twenty years or more! IF left undisturbed...so creepy...but part of nature I guess! Thank you for reading something you didn't really enjoy tho!! ")) smiles...susan

I loved this story. What a great ending. That expression "horde of spiders" is really chilling. You've built up to this wonderfully well with your descriptions of Gwyneth's fear beautifully described as it grows and grows to sheer panic. Just when your reader is lulled into thinking all is well and every spider must certainly be dead, you bring on the horror. Nice touch! I also thought the detail about the cat smelling "the odor of danger" was a good way of increasing the tension before the finale. Here I was thinking the spray would kill the cat! Check your second paragraph for a typo. WOMANS should be WOMAN'S.

Hey, Suse. I admit to having no love for the little
buggers, either. But I don't think we have wolf spiders here.
As always, Susan your prose is really clean and direct.
And, once again, you inhabit your protagonist.
Really good, creepy story.

Peace, Lee

Hi again! Thanks, Lee! I hope you don't have them...I know they are living things, but...well, I can't help but fear them. Things with fangs! Yuck! ")) S.

EWWWWWW-I have more than a strong distaste for spiders. Just reading this gave me the willies. Your story flows and moves quickly-just as fast as spiders legs. I love that you wrote of going for a can of bug killer and swatter. Still got chills.

LOL! For real...I love your review Carolyn...I wish you could see me running and jumping...the darn things are driving me to the jitters. I jump at every little shadow. I have killed many in the last few weeks...ahhhhh! I love 'EWWWWWWW'! This is hilarious! Thanks for making my morning! xoxo, susan

Hi there! I'm really having a time with these things...this old house is infested with them! I am going nuts trying to get them too. Between them and the air traffic harassment, I'm ready to blow. ") Luv, susan
