There are those who love Neil Diamond and those who do not, said Bob Wiley. I love Neil Diamond. I have four original albums. Lucky me. Mostly, I'm blessed to have had such a rich musical heritage, and to have enjoyed this man for decades. He's written for many others, and made them what they are. The Monkees come to mind with I'm a Believer. Neil Diamond wrote the song and they took it to the bank and fame. You have a lot of great ones here and one of my favorites: America. It's my home too.

Noteworthy favorites are: Play Me, September Morn, and Thank The Lord For The Night Time.

Exceptional, my friend!

Sending you my best today as always, and six stars to bless.

Your musical tastes are always a joy for me and I'm absolutely delighted that this resonated so well with you. He's a real American legend isn't he, suiting that anthem so well! Bless you for your time and kindness here. Merry Christmas! Debbie xos

I love how you you blend the song titles into your biographical poems so cleverly. Your rhythm and rhyme are wonderfully smooth. I must admit that "Song Sung Blue" is one of my favorites of that era.

Debbie, you've just written about one of my all favourite musicians. I can safely say that I grew up with his music and songs. I'm just listening to 'I am', and it brings tears to my eyes with so many memories. Thanks for sharing this my talented friend. Ulla xcx

Thank you so much, Ulla, for such a wonderful review! I was automatically going to choose Sweet Caroline for the post. But 'I am' is so hauntingly beautiful isn't it? And when you listen to the lyrics.... As mentioned in the notes, it took him 4 months to write (Sweet Caroline an hour). He was really suffering mentally and had lost his sense of self, unable to reconcile the public figure with the private. I love the way he sings about being lost between two shores, not fitting the West and unable to return to the East. The chair referred to in the lyrics is the empty psychiatrist's chair as though he's forever facing this philosophical question of who he is. Deeply profound! Thanks again and Merry Christmas! Thank you for covering Neil Diamond. I recognized more of his songs than any of the previous artists that you covered. There were still a few I didn't know so you keep educating me.
I especially liked "The Art of Love he'd learn in rhyme -
a precious Diamond rule!"
There's a comedy titled "What about Bob?" with Billy Murray (neurotic nut) and Richard Dreyfuss (his shrink). Bob explains why his marriage failed with the statement, "There are those who love Neil Diamond and there are those who don't..." Shows Neil Diamond's influence!

Thank you so much, Helen, for this lovely, thoughtful review! I'm afraid that, once I got the idea of the puns in his name, I might have overdone it towards the end of the verse as well:)) Take care Debbie

Another fine tribute to a superb songwriter/singer of our generation. Neil Diamond was a favourite, and his song Sweet Caroline is likely the most popular song in the world, even more than The Gambler.

A fine job here, and congratulations on your Writer of the Month award.

Much enjoyed. :)

Thank you so much, Gloria, both for this wonderful review and also for your congratulations which are greatly appreciated! I'm absolutely delighted you enjoyed. It seems he's another great, beset by insecurities and depression. I'm afraid I won't be replying in PM because that would give my identity away. But please know I'm very grateful. Take care Debbie

Debbie. Like Babs, you sure have done your homework and we appreciate your notes and videos. He was great in the movie, The Jazz Singer. A gifted musician and singer. Loved by so many fans. Thank you for putting your all into this poem. Kxx

Thank you so much, Kay, for this wonderful review which I greatly appreciate! I never saw The Jazz Singer but I understand the theme paralleled with his own life, torn between the private and public figure. I'm afraid I won't be replying to this in PM because that would give my identity away. But please know I'm very grateful. Take care Debbie

From poverty to letting his music ring all over America, your poem about Neil Diamond teaches us a strong lesson about having the courage to overcome our fears and strive to better our lives than where they started. Thanks for sharing@

Most Excellent ...
... you must be experienced

quality write with charm and delight bringing fame and fortune with another cover song of an old hymn ... just teasing quality write for sure was more a Johnny than a Neil though the other Neil got my vote. Enjoyed the melodic rhythm with good structure and peaceable tones to a informative piece ... take a bow !

I don't think I have met anyone who does not know a Neil Diamond song Debbie. A few years ago I met someone and we had a few years together cruising on the Thompson Majesty, a ship that sailed around the Canaries and the Greek islands. We were drawn to that ship because it was like home to us. We followed it all over the place. They always played Neil Diamond songs and those years cruising were some of the happiest times of my life Debbie. Sweet Caroline was a real favourite. I enjoyed your fine poem bringing back some fond memories for me, love Dolly x x x

You brought this man's career to life here and I loved your fine rhyming words Debbie, love Dolly x

What a lovely review, Dolly! Thank you so much. What an experience that must have been for you and I'm not surprised they were such happy years. Good old Neil! Sweet Caroline is wonderful and when the crowd sings it at football matches, the excitement and celebration usually bring a tear to my eye (it doesn't take much!) I'm delighted it resonated. Love Debbie x
