You capture the feeling of visiting a graveyard well. A solitary person wanders through the grey gravestones and grey mist looking for a specific one. What prompts the visit? We may never know.

Thank you so much for the nice review. I would assume the hurt hasn't healing and he wasn't to be there to remember and grieve.

My wife's grandparents are in an older cemetery. It's amazingly beautiful seeing the stone in so many shapes and sizes and creating a story of sorts based on what you see. I hope that didn't sound creepy?

I enjoyed your poem.
Best of luck in the contest,
John

What is our fascination for cemeteries? I often used to have a wander around and I would see the graves of people I once knew. I guess it will one day be our resting place. Good luck.

Thank you Wendyanne. I liked to wander around in cemeteries too but I could never get my husband to go with me.

An amazingly appropriate picture you found. The grey matting made the poem sufficiently sad and gloomy. Type color showed us the dismal nature of the occasion. Good work. Karen

I love cemeteries, although it's not a psychological need, but more an insight into what was once the lives of those departed souls, a lot of suffering and misery quite often, beautifully written, blessings Roy

Well done, Beth, with a reference to the ache of approaching death in each line: faltering, lonely, aging. Nice alliteration in line one. Internal rhyme with lone(ly) and stones. Good luck in the contest.

It may sound strange but I have always liked visiting cemeteries, especially the older ones. I like seeing the artwork on the stones and thinking about several members of the same family line resting close together. It would definitely be very lonely if you were the last one left alive to visit the departed and recall lifelong memories. This is an excellent posting, my friend.

Thank you so much. It doesn't sound strange to me. I love old cemeteries, too. The ones in New Orleans were awesome. The water table is high the people have to be buried in large structure above the ground and some of the graves go back several hundred years. I also found interesting ones in Nashville and Salelm, Mass.

Your simple, evocative words go straight to the heart and portray how it feels to visit a cemetery on a lonely day. We feel what it is like to be without the person who has gone before us. A terrific entry for the contest. Best of luck.

Beth,

This is an exceptional entry in the 3 Line Poetry Contest. in just three little lines you've captured the scene of solemnity of a lonely cemetery visit to a loved one's grave. Brilliantly done. This is the winning entry in my opinion.

All the best in the contest,

Eugene
