This is a very enjoyable story. Ava knows horses well and knows how to treat them. This would be such a good story for teens, especially girls. There are, at this point, no boys to mess things up and she is a very competent girl.

Another excellent chapter with marvelous description of the interaction of Ava and the last of the horses. The constant talk establishes the connection with the horse and allows calm to replace panic. Like people, it's always good to know you're not alone. There is an instinct to seize freedom.
And now for the goat, which might actually be the most useful animal if you're stranded on an island.

I'm amazed at how calm and relaxed you are with an excited horse. I'm guessing a yearling is more afraid in unknown situations than an older horse with more experience. I'm glad you were able to open the stall door to get the young horse out. I can't wait to see where all this leads.

I guess I am basing Ava on my experience with horses. I remember once, I was driving some of my employer's horses to a horse show. The wife was in the pickup with me. The wheel came off the horse trailer. She loved telling everyone all day how calmly I said to her, "We just lost a wheel," as it rolled by in front of us. I still remember how a whole group of people came running from the parking lot to help. LOL.

Seize the day! That was tense! I was holding my breath at one point. I suppose the goat will probably just follow along quietly. It is amazing how well goats and horses get along. Once we had three baby goats and the horses would let them play king of the hill on their backs when they were laying down. Well done debi!ð??? Nancy:)

Thank you for the encouraging review and your comments about horses and goats. When I worked on a horse breeding farm, we had one nervous colt. We put a got in with him to calm him down. The goat often slept right on top of the horse when he was laying down We finally had to take the goat out because he was eating the colt's mane and tail. Have a wonderful week.
