In this chapter, Detective Jackson Law pilots a two-engine Cessna with Candace, Simon, and Daniel aboard to Stark's Airfield near Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where they will have a more secure haven. Jackson's friend, Governor Preston Jones meets them at the hangar with two of his guards. Among the papers the governor brings to Simon is his requested form for changing his family name from Elling to Cole -- a wise move.

In Section Two, just as Betty Jo Jenkins meets her fiance, Captain Hank Riley, on the porch, he is taken down by an unseen sniper's shot.

In Section Three, she sits beside his bed, holding his hand continuously and does not leave after normal visiting hours. The entire crew takes turns relieving Betty Jo briefly when needed. Tommy becomes temporary captain of Aspen Grove P.D. in Hank's place as they prepare for the trial of Fitzgerald Elling besides normal policing of the community. Meanwhile, the Sheriff's office starts investigating Hank's shooting.

Thanksgiving passes, and December snows begin. One day, Tommy is surprised at the hospital elevator by Candace, Simon, and the governor of Louisiana.

You have a way of keeping us wondering what will happen next.

Superb, and aptly illustrated (representing Candace and Daniel).

This is I can hardly wait to see a low vision specialist who may be able to help restore some of my vision. But another very well written chapter for your book. I do hope that you will have a wonderful week and continue to write your book.

I like the way you signal that they have changed their looks by saying that Candace is a blonde bombshell now.

"Jackson gave his friend and hug before leaving" - change and to a

Always tragedy when you think everything is going swimmingly . . .

Good attention to detail here, good flow to the story, and good dialogue, which I've come to expect from you.

Can't wait to see how this will all play out.

You always save the most exciting for the end. Good strategy, that. I could almost picture the Captain in mid-leap onto the porch when the bullet took him down. Very well-described, Sally. Overall, a great chapter.

Dear Jay, thank you so much for the lovely review and generous stars. I am honored and blessed. The six stars from Jay Squires is coveted on FS! I feel the imaginary hands reaching over trying to rip it from my pages. To won?t allow it though. Thank goodness! I so value your input, my friend.

There is no suggestion who shot the Sheriff. That is under investigation, isn't it? You say the Sheriff has a chest swathed in bandages, but his injury sounds like a head wound if he can't wake up. Maybe a little explanation how that can be is called for. Lots of excitement in this chapter.

Thank you so much for the lovely review of my book chapter. Yes, I will get into that in the next chapter. Thanks for saying, though. I have done two autopsies in my seven books and sometimes this medical stuff gets to be too much for my FS traders.

No, any loss of blood can result in a coma. The body can compensate for a good deal of blood loss. However, at a certain point, it shuts down unnecessary components in order to protect your heart. This is what is going on with Hank Riley.

Remember Adrianne from Rocky II? She slipped into a coma from blood loss and it wasn?t from a head wound.

It seems there's nothing that isn't affected by Elling's evil influence, an equal helping of love and sadness in this episode, so the case rolls on my friend, this is beautifully written Sally, blessings Roy

Hi Sally, this is a joy to read. There's happiness and sorrow in almost equal measure, but I'm glad to say that joy found its mark.

Wow, Hank is in ICU for a long time. I guess that happens after a gunshot wound. Sorry your voice transcription went out on you; you did very well and this chapter is so interesting. I'm guessing Candace's and Simon's presence means FEE's trial is set to begin. Looking forward to reading that. Blessings. Carol
