I think you had a teacher that was unreasonable and had no knowledge of the biology. I don't think anyone can get hiccups on purpose. I used to have them occasionally too. They can be embarrassing. I found holding my breath until I thought I was passing out got rid of them. Good luck with this true story contest. I enjoyed how you related the experience.

They were quite unreasonable to punish you for it! Why not just take you out and offer you a drink of water? Teaches in those times were unnecessarily harsh. You have nevertheless written a fine account of your experience and I wish you the best for your entry in the contest.

This was good. I was only thinking, recently, I had not had any hiccup attacks in ages. However, that must have brought them on again, not long after. I bet you were a cute nine-year-old. Loved the beautiful butterfly.

I had this all written and hit the wrong button, and it disappeared. I was always mortified by my loud obnoxious hiccups. They happened at the most inconvenient times, such as in the middle of prayer at church. You did a great job with your story. I enjoyed the read. Take care. Shirley

Wow, your teacher was really mean. I am older and I could not sit without doing anything for an hour, that is child abuse. I went to catholic school in Spain and my teachers were mean too. Excellent entry for the Share Your Story contest. Well done!

I sympathise because I used to suffer from hiccups as a child mainly when I laughed. I can still laugh but dont seem to to get the hiccups anymore. Teachers back then could be very obtuse I'm afraid.

YEs. Denia is on the coast and iis very close to Valencia. I will definitely come by. We can take trains, correct. My husband has been there before.

I get hiccups at night usually when experiencing the temperature changes from a warm shower to the cool room. I wonder if you found any triggers for your hiccups?
