Studying history is always interesting. My mom is also into genealogy. She's collected some interesting stories over the years. She also spent time doing what she called 'graveyard hopping' in order to verify dates and information.
Your piece is well-written and enjoyable to read. There is only one thing that I would point out and that is the use of the word 'hung.' One of my teachers taught us that people are always hanged, never hung, while clothing is always hung, never hanged. The lesson stuck.
Good luck in the contest!

Thank you Faith. I've done some 'graveyard hopping' as well. So many people are cremated today and have their ashes scattered, it will be harder in the future. Thanks for reminding me about hanging vs hung. I remember learning too. I changed it and put quotes where I was quoting my aunt.

Very well written. Very detailed.
One of my brothers did extensive work searching through the various avenues. He discovered that we were descendant back three generations before Adam!

My aunt did an extensive search using very good methods of discovery, with including church records from England tracing mum's family name to an area of Jutland some 1300 to maybe 1500 years ago, but I can't confirm that, the other side is Welsh Celtic, thank you for these things. Beth Shelby on-site has done extensive work on her ancestry, beautifully written, blessings Roy
