Nicely told. Good work.
I was later told that my Dad, to be, fell in love --- Dad-to-be would read better.
A baby never ask to be born and a baby never ask - 'asks' in both cases
Best wishes.

Thanks for your interesting and touching story. I'd be interested to know how you were able to find your biological parents. It must be a story of persistence, enabled by the internet. Your writing is good, but a slow read-though would probably help you find edits to improve it. Look at punctuation and syntax. What I see may be because English is your second language, but to improve your writing in English these areas need special attention. I really enjoyed reading your story and wish you luck in the contest.

Thank you so much. It's a long story which is all in one of my books.
I have made quite a lot of editing. Some of them down to language, but a few due to typing and not taking the time to read it through before letting it go. No good excuse, I know. Thanks a lot for letting me know. Ulla:)))

I enjoyed reading your story. This is a good contest entry and should do well. I have no experience knowing anyone who has gone through this process but I have compassion for those who have.
Your writing is honest and descriptive.
I enjoy the short paragraph format.

There are so many people who weren't as lucky as you. My aunt had some kids adopted out when she was a teen. I don't know if she'll ever meet them but I'm glad you had a success story.

I know, I was lucky. I had a bad start to my life but it ended in happy. The real reason for this story is that quite a few contest with a family theme has been up of late and, in every single one, adoption was prohibited.
In the end I thought enough is enough, adopted people are no less family. Hence this contest. Thanks a lot for your review. Ulla:)))

Ulla,

How wonderful! I know some children do feel a bit less-than when they discover they are adopted. That is sad! Obviously, they were CHOSEN - which is about as big an honor as there is!

One small note:
--> They had their eyes firmly set on a boy(.)

You sound amazing! I would have loved to see that picture of you right then with the black eye. Awesome!

-It is great artwork and a good topic that should be helpful to many people, Ulla. I noticed one positive response to you creating the contest.
-You did a good job with your story.
-You go back to early beginnings, and memories you have of those times. I think I have heard of things like that-of people having been in an orphanage and still having memories of it.
-I like your description of being a bit of a tomboy, and how your adoptive dad was drawn to you.
-You are very fortunate to have all of the background you do, and then discover your real parents, too.
-That has led to a wonderful relationship as you embarked on your story
of Lorenzo.
-You have a very good, heartfelt conclusion.
-Good luck in the contest.

Thank you so much, Pam. Your wonderful review has summed up exactly what I was trying to say.
To my delight, a few more have written for the contest. We all feel that we have as much right to be family as anyone. Ulla:)))

You are very welcome, Ulla, and I appreciate your reply. I am glad the contest is doing well. Do some people not think that adoptive children are not part of the family? I don't know much about it, but I guess the attitude could come from kids and other parents, too, depending on what kind of community you live in.
reply by the author on 26-Mar-2022
Where all this comes from is that there's a writer who sponsors contests about family and consistently prohibits adoption, making it obvious that adopted people cannot be considered family. It's an affront, and I had to do something about it. :)))

Firstly - well said in your notes. I cannot agree more! There should be no differentiation as to what constitutes a family. Secondly, I thoroughly enjoyed your story, and it was very well written. It did make me wonder why you were left in an orphanage - but I am glad your birth parents accepted and loved you when you did meet up with them. Best wishes for your entry in the contest.

Thank you so much, Wendy. That's just how it was in those days in Denmark. Foster care was not yet known there. So any baby rejected by its mother and father would end up in an orphanage. So that's where I was taken immediately after my birth. Ulla:)))

Hey Ulla, by the sounds of it you had a very rich life, with lots of opportunity to travel, and learn new languages, which I guess explains in part your ease in picking up English. That and of course your inborn feistiness as evidenced by your magnificent black eye when your adoptive parents arrived.

I have been an orphan almost my entire life, and yes I have read some of your most enjoyable memoirs.

Just one thing here:

A bug that is still with me as I'm approaching my seventh (eighth) decade. -- Eighth decade (age 70 to 79)

Thank you so much for sharing, and good luck to you in the contest. :))

Now, may I ask? You say you've been an orphan most of your life. How come? Ulla:)))
