This was a great true story. But I seriously don't think it was prejudice, not even harmless. I believe it was simply what the gay community has been striving for and that is, people would see them as normal. Twenty years ago, it would have been considered just two guys looking for art and one of the guys bought it for his wife. Just my opinion. Good story, though.

Thank you, I do see your point. I was trying to say it was harmless to Kirby and me. Terry.

This is a good story, and highly amusing that you were mistakenly assumed to be a gay couple. The same happened to me, often, when I was a young choreographer. People assumed dance=gay, but I wasn't, and if I turned up anywhere with a male mate, it was assumed he was my partner. Not that it ever bothered me. :-)

Thanks for the review. My wife and I lived in an area of Dallas that is the "gay" area for many years. A friend of my wife asked, "Do the gay guys bother Terry?", my wife replied, "No, his jeans are too baggy." Terry.

"Finding Andy Warhol"
This is an interesting story about the artist Andy Warhol.
I personally have a dear friend who is gay who I love very much.
As a heterosexual my choices were made many many years ago and I have as a result of wonderful family.
..
This was another well written Rich in Theme and Imagery piece.
And, thanks for sharing.

Hello Terry.

Lots of people have preconceived notions and stereotypical thinking. It's a well told story. You did an excellent job writing the narrative. It engaged the reader and is entertaining.

You resolve all of the tensions of the story in the last sentence. That is great storytelling and I wish you the best in the contest.

Robert

This is a well written story with a whimsical undertone. As an artist, I have always loved Andy Warhol's work, I wish I could afford an original. I also have sales experience and your correct , having preconceived notions about people can be costly. Thanks for sharing.

Hey Terry, I loved this story. I wonder what made the shop owner believe that you were gay? Can't strait men enjoy art work? Are we allowed to write poems or enjoy flowers? When I was young I used to wear paisley shirts and at one time I had a pair of lavender pants. I wouldn't wear them now, but no one ever gave me any grief about them either. Well done.
Blessings
Tom

Thanks Tom, I think it was because it was Andy Warhol. I still wear pink shirts! LOL

This story is told in a direct and succinct way, building as it progresses, and ending with a humorous and surprising statement. By the way, that was the perfect painting for a "cat daddy." Best wishes in the contest.

LOL, yes it is. My wife loved that piece of art. She died three years ago and Kirby will get it when it's my time, it is in my will. Thank you! Terry.

A wonderful post. It amazing and sad that the shop could not just describe as two men looking at the painting without adding gay
I enjoyed your writing and telling the story
Good luck in the contest.
Best wishes

I wrote what I thought was a funny response, but my wife didn't laugh when I ran it by her. So I deleted it.
Your story is well written.
PS - that manager may have a problem.

This was hilarious! My sister and I are often mistaken for a lesbian couple (we're close and look nothing alike). I'm glad you got the painting. Keep up the good work.
