The Cicadas are alive and well in Texas right now. LOL Their song is heard nightly. Actually it would be impossible to miss. I read an article the other day, that Cicadas happen to be copperheads favorite food. So now I am a little more cautious going outside. Thank you for sharing.

Hello Barbara... I am listening to our cicadas here in Richmond, VA as we speak. Mine like to make morning melodies. I did not know that about copperheads ugh... ;) and you could have kept that to yourself ~ ignorance is bliss. LOL. Hugs! Thanks Barbara, so glad you liked it.

Well, isn't this a fabulous way for me to get to start my writing week! I read Cicadas Sing out loud twice, and am entranced. Your meter isn't forced, your choice of words is exquisite, and it's obvious you've put some elbow grease into this piece. So well done, and I'm a new fan. Thanks for this coffee break!

This is an interesting poetry format. It has its own unique flow and rhyme sequence. I love the subject as well as the choice of rhymes. This is done with tender care. It shows in the artwork and careful, thoughtful use of words to describe the Cicadas in their habitat. I love all parts of nature, and singing Cicadas is one of many treats I love. Well written and an excellent Rondeau.
Have a wonderful nature-loving day,
Jesse

Hi Jesse. I do like to listen to cicadas, even though they can be rather loud... it is one of the premier essences of summer to me. Thank you, my friend, for the lovely comments!!

Hi Sugarray,

I hear ya! Cicadas singing can drive you nuts some nights and then others I can tune it out. Here in Texas we didn't have as much singing this summer as we normally do. Some summers past, it was so loud you couldn't hear yourself think!

Beautifully penned summer poem that I reminisced to as I'm Southern...

Have a great week :))

Hello Senyai! Hey, I'm southern too ~ grew up in Arkansas and now live in Richmond, Va area. I must admit that I do like to listen to cicadas... even when they are loud. Its so very summertime to me when their song rises and falls. Thank you so much for the lovely review.

    Sugarray,

Born in Mississippi and moved to Texas when I was five, so I?m Southern too. Fellow Southerners we are:))
Always longed to visit beautiful Virginia! My daughter and her husband were stationed in Virginia Beach while he was in the Navy. They sent us many gorgeous pictures ❤️

Lovely rondeau. Your imagery is such that we can see it in our minds as well as heat the cicadas singing in their own special and unique way. Lovely image too.

This is such a skilful and delightful tale of the cicadas and their musical melodies. I love the alliteration with all the (c) words in the last stanza to bring their tongues to life here, a fine poem written by a very talented pen, a joy to read Melissa, love Dolly x

Hi Dolly. Thank you so very much for your comments on this Rondeau. It was a challenge, but hey, I like challenges. I liken these to your ability to create new forms that use logical and sensible placements for internal rhymes... I can't wrap my mind around that too often. :). Hugs, my friend.

A lovely rondeau! And nothing says it's summer in the southern states than the sound of cicadas. I think they sound like chainsaws. But poetic nature-lover you can hear them "sing."

Hello sweet Helen. Thanks for the review. I do like to listen to cicadas ~ even when they are loud. It is the quintessential sound of summertime to me. :). I have had some reviewers hate their sound (got a 4 over it ~ LOL). Hugs, my friend.

You have written a very flattering piece about cicadas. You describe the sound as *impassioned music* and singing *old ballads* , but is the you use the words *loud cacophonies* with say *summer melodies* In my opinion, the piece was confusing,

You have certainly mastered this form - the rondeau forms a cycle of rhythm and rhyme that reminds me of a waltz. And the singing cicadas provide the background music. Very creative and enjoyable piece. I liked it - when it starts to snow, I'll try to remember cicadas singing on hot summer nights...

Hello June... it does seem that the Rondeaus are in my blood this summer. The beginnings start in my head and I just grab a pen... (really, I grab my IPad.. it has a keyboard attached to it) So appreciate you, June ~ hugs!!

Mel,

I can hear them now! Well, crickets, actually. I don't think I'm interested in hearing any cicadas, but their cousins are okay. *smile* This is a poetry form I always enjoy. I like that repetition - falling so smoothly just where it ought. The beautiful rhymes - the lovely images.

You have such a gift for bringing things to life. Thank you!

Hey sweet Robyn... I hope you are enjoying a southern symphony even if it is crickets ~ they are cool too. I don't know if you follow cooking with Brenda Gantt on Facebook. She is from Andalusia and teaches cooking videos. I follow her faithfully and get a big kick out of her stories... she has one about crickets. Thanks bunches!!
