I can indentify with this story because there were always a few misfits in our classes as well. Students moving in from other places always had a hard time. A few new girls came in wearing clothes that were more beautiful than those we owned. There were accepted immediately and became the ones everyone wanted to get to know, but most kids didn't make that all important first impression.

I remember those days vividly. I have a similar memory of a boy I pretty much ignored in fifth and sixth grades. I wish I could tell him how sorry I am. I've tried to find him, but never have. I'm sure Eve and Clifford were glad to get away from there. I hope he didn't continue to be a bully.

I always take away something good from each chapter of this particular book. Being an outsider .... Strange, but I had an intense desire to be popular in school, and while I wasn't an outsider, being part of the in-group aways evaded me. And yes, there were others who were definitely outsiders who I wouldn't have anything to do with because of the stigma involved. You brought that about nicely, Bill, with your wish for a time machine. It would have come in handy, wouldn't it?

I can only imagine he was asked to leave it home. [You used "I can only imagine twice in close proximity. You might want to change the wording of one of them.

I feel your anguish. I was blessed with my fathers personality, which is the seeming ability to make a friend in an empty room. So, I was never without friends. I am able to this day to do so. I am also blessed because, these types of men do not always make good husbands. I think my determination to not repeat my father's mistakes may have contributed to my success as a husband. I too feel sorry for the people in my life who were not that good at making friends. I have always tried to be their friend because of these sympathetic tendencies on my part.

This is well written and easy to follow with a high interest level. I'm sure most everyone is able to relate to this in one way or another. fortunately for me, I attended the same school from kindergarten through 12th grade, and never had to be the new kid. When you students came to our school, it was always an exciting deal, and especially in elementary school, everyone would flock to the new kid and give them lots of attention. Thanks for sharing this. Hugs and blessings to you, Bill.

Great Story, plenty of details and description that are nice to read and to "take your purposed travel". I do agree that "Going through school exposes us to all types of people". And that is part of our learning, apart from theories and math, we learn from life, something very valuable. Great Writing!

Another wonderful story of your childhood friends and acquaintances. I understand the fascination you had with Clifford, someone who was clearly unique. I had a few of those myself. Sending you my best today as always,
Sal XOs...:))
