Ciao Sugarray!

There is something imposing /majestic about the sound of drums .. and even some for their size alone.

I love your entry .I love the theme and the sound of those kind of drums ..

Are you familiar with Taiko Japanese drumming ?

It's mesmerising..

The performers literally beat the paint off the drums ..I can see why they are so fit looking.

One needs a lot of stamina to play them

..men mainly play them but there are some exceptions

I found a you tube clip awhile ago and this Japanese drummer was on a cliff in front of the ocean and he was beating the crap out of that one huge drum.

Ballistic but in an artistic , creative way.

This is my favourite verse for the content and also for the neat rhymes loud / proud

Kettle drums pounding loud
thrumming strong, feeling proud.

Drums definitely have the power to submerge a listener .. one is definitely overcome ( like you wrote) by the beat.

PS. Sorry, I confess most formats are lost on me .. I guess my vote should take that in too because having to follow a meter is not easy ..pardon.

I love the sound of these drums I have heard them many times, though the ones I have seen don't look as flash as these ones, very well written and presented****kahpot

Very cute and clever poem, Melissa. You have inspired me to want to attempt one of these. I don't believe I've ever written a poem in amphimacer meter. It is very appealing, the way you've done it here. I see nothing to suggest or change and feel like your creativity and perfection is worth at least six stars. I'm so glad I have some left. ;p MM

Hi Adonna. Thank you. I am so happy you liked it!!! It is my first attempt and was challenging. I cannot believe you had a sixer left tonight... my cupboard is bare!! Hugs, my friend.

I really like the metre on this one. These is nothing more interesting to me, than the heavy pounding of drums, in the horizon or in a concert hall. They are a magnificent sound to "be" in.

Excellent work, and nice mention of Pantygynt. :))

Hi Gloria. Thanks so much. This meter was challenging and I got tired of it before I really had much of a poem. LOL. So appreciate your comments on it. I had gotten a question from kahpot .. Kym..about amphibrach meter and got out my notes from class to send to him... I asked Jim first, and got his ok... I encourage him to contact Jim with questions. Maybe he will take one of his classes. Thanks again.

You can get some amazing sounds out of these things, specially the ones with the pedals. They have been used in the past as part of the sound track for animated cartoons.

I have to say though that given UK English I don't think these are amphimacer. I see them as dactyls.

DUM-da-da, DUM-da-da
KET-tle-drums POUN-ding-loud.

However I can see it could work amphimacetrically. Hey, how about that for a new word .Lol.

Now, you are in the business of making up poetic words. Haha I am sure your spell check was screaming!! LOL. I sent the notes on meter to kahpot and reread them myself and focused on the amphimacer definition... just thought I would try one out... got a sixer out of it... yahoo!!

Based on your explanation, it seems as though you mastered the Amphimacer meter first time out of the gate. You also seem to have mastered the kettle drum beat, and your last line made me smile. Nicely done.

Hello Michele. Thanks so much. I had gotten out my notes from the meter class last year and I have never tried a poem in this meter, so well, why not? LOL. Thanks again!

What a great them of kettledrums for your amphimacer metered poem! I like your swift "full retreat" as this takes some time to really think up work combinations in this meter!

Hi Helen. Thank you for your fun review. It was hard to get it going and make sense too.. and add rhymes. It sure does not have the flow of iambic. I do not think I will be using this much. LOL

There must be a case when this is called for. But I agree, English is so naturally iambic. 💖

My head spins with all the meters that incredibly well named, and I often wonder what clever person identified and named them, but I'm sure I've written in this meter, heh. Heh, well done, Melissa, clever you, blessings Roy

Great use of this meter and good rhyming. Your words are very descriptive, one can almost hear the beat of the snare drums. I like poems that put a definite picture in my mind.

Hello Anne. Thanks. This is the first time I have written in amphimacer meter. It is a challenge with all of the moving rhythms and then the rhyme too. It is a wonder it makes sense. LOL!!

Pretty cool, Dum de Dum meter seems to be a pretty good marriage to kettle drums. I enjoyed, actually read twice, that last time out loud! Bill Oops, not enough characters
