This is a really cool idea. I would like to look back in time and remember some of the friends from my past. I might do it not the site but just for the sake of remembering. Thanks for the great idea. I will continue to enjoyed your journey with friends you have stored in your memory bank.

Very well written story. I actually enjoyed reading about Charlie.
He was so much like many boys his age. He was doing stuff not to unusual for the time.
Thank you for the introduction.
Regards
Mary

Your friend Charlie reminds me so much of my friend Billy. We grew up together. We were so close that his mom would often refer to me using my first name and their last name. I was so much at home in their house that I could do just about anything that he could do, although I almost never did. When we went away to the military, a girl who wanted him, told a lie about me and his girlfriend, then trapped him into marrying her by getting pregnant. We would not see each other but once nearly ten years after his joining the Army and my joining the Air Force a month later.

Charlie, I hear, is a grownup version of himself as a kid.

Dear Bill, I think this idea of writing essays about friends and friendships, is one of the best you have ever had.

I found this particular post most touching. Because it describes early boyhood friends, that are always very special. And I loved your word kanoodle.

Wouldn't you like to know how he's doing now? Being such a bad influence in his youth, he may be a clergyman or something totally unexpected. I enjoy this stroll down memory lane of that summer. I look forward to reading more.

This is a very interesting and well-written take on the various friends we purport to have during our lifetime. How you met them and felt about them and those close to them. It seems we don't take friendship very seriously until we are older and have meaningful connections.

Yes, Ralf. Parents often let us choose our friends, though some are not totheir preference.

I love this for all the things that are unsaid. Every line seems loaded with more of the story, condensed from the can like you used to by orange juice (or maybe still do)... Any wonderings or regrets? I find I regret times I stayed out of trouble as much as times I found it... Eric Clapton before everyone had heard of him; the Beatles after everyone was tired of them. This would be an interesting novel if it had a central plot line like "Stand By Me." Thank you for sharing this.

Fascinating story. Who knows what you might have been up to with Charlie if he hadn't moved? He didn't seem the best of influences. Excellent details about some of the things you got into with him. First the actual dirt and then the dirty magazines. It sounds as if your memories of Charlie are still pretty sharp and vivid. Maybe it's because of his friendly sister. judi

Ha, I loved the slow, relaxed, conversational style that really started to gather momentum when you mentioned the girl in the bedroom. The understatement of the last line was classic. It pulls the chapter together. Great addition, Bill

Thank you, Jay, for the terrific review and helpful comments. I hope to people this story with as many people I can call friends as possible. Do I have fifty friends? Hope so.
