This morning it struck me how Sawyer is growing up right before our eyes. It's not noticeble from day to day, but I remind myself how he was a tiny baby when I 'met' him. It's very generous of you to share so openly with all of us.

I wondered what in the world "bumbershoots" were. I'd heard it before but I couldn't place it until I read your notes.
I loved the pace, the easy rhyming and the steady rhythm. Always a pleasure, Brooke.

Adrienne, thank you so much :-) Yep, he sure is growing. In the past few days he has gone from single words and baby phrases to full-blown sentences. Brooke

We just got home from LA yesterday. (We left just as the rains were coming in) I thought of Sawyer and what a new experience this will be for him.
I grew up calling my raincoat a slicker.
This is adorable and fun to read.
Blessings
Janet

Hi Brooke,

I haven't heard anyone call an umbrella a 'bumbershoot' in a very long time. It used to be a word my family used having picked it up from the Saturday Evening Post ... Now there's some history.

This reminded me of something I witnessed many years ago, when it rained in a part of the North Eastern Cape for the first time in twelve years, and children were out in the street without any rainwear amazed, having never seen rain before.

Another memory for Sawyer in the future.

Patrick

This poem is beautiful and shows your deep knowledge of the english language. I respect your ability and poetic vein so much I can't express it.

I have learned something new today. I have never heard of a bumbershoot and now I feel the need to incorporate it into my word for the day. I'm sure I will annoy several with it and that is my goal. LOL. Great poem. Took me back to the days when I used to turn ordinary rainy days into wonderful and wet adventures. Great poem and as always, loved the Sawyer pick. Gretchen

A very interesting form. I see the slight modification, it fits and still carries the theme to every section. The poem reminds us that adventure can be found in every raindrop as long as we have imagination.

Thanks for the foot note or I would not have known the word. Lovely photo again from Sawyer. I think he would try and sail if there is rain and travel the world.

LMAO indeed anything is possible when the bumbershootin' brolley and the rain slicker ain't doin' their job properly Brooke. This Quatern was SO cute mate...I rarely find anything to pick at in your work and although you have correct grammar I wanted to put "and" instead of "so" at the start of the second line...but with respect, understand "so" is completely in context. The use of "and" is most likely a cop out, me thinks...such a convenient word, but I DID feel it sounded smoother as the joiner to those interconnecting lines. Will always give you the most honest appraisal I can.
LOVED the title mate. Hugs P x

Dear Brooke - I loved this one - perfect for children. It brought a vision to my mind of Courtney doing the same think, a brolly and raincoat...
As always a skilled write - I think your imagery pops in this one my friend.
Thanks for sharing it. - Made me smile:)
Maureen
