Oh, I wish I had another 6 for this beauty. Ingenious as always and a great subject since they are everywhere right now! Can't pick a favorite stanza but love the conclusion.

This is a delightful counting poem. I think most children can relate to worms. In my opinion your rendition of ten things being reduced one by one is in the same league as Ten Little Injuns.

Oh my, the poor little worms. I like to fish but I refuse to use live bait. It is actually such a sad poem, but it is well written. Great stuff.

Oh such terrible demises these poor little worms met - floods, rain and oh, the dreaded footstep. Another very fun and well written counting poem.

    Teresa, thanks so much - glad you enjoyed the deaths of these poor little creatures - good to know I'm not the only mean person around. LOL :-) Brooke

Charming poem for young ones - reaffirms basic numbers for the little ones and, as is always the case with your work, it is crying to be read aloud to a group of kids sitting at your feet. The rhyming in this one is terrific and I love the cadence. Terrific addition for the Book of Sawyer. Jean

Ha-ha, well, earthworms have two hearts but very tiny brains, so...

This was very cute, Brooke. It read a lot like many of the poems I read to my kids at bedtime when they were both about three, or four. At five, they'd already been exposed to the more horrific aspects of poetry and prose (and not by me either, believe it or not, LOL), and soon they had me reading the poems and stories of Edgar Alan Poe, Charles Dickens and Edgar Rice Burroughs instead.

Well done, poor little guys, heh-heh...

    Thanks so much, Dean - my daughter in particular loved the dark stuff like Hillaire Belloc's cautionary tales and Isabel, who eats the bear instead of vice versa - and she adored Edward Gorey, like the one about the family members who disappear one by one while picnicking. Brooke

    It's funny how the apple never really falls far from the tree, isn't it? My daughter Chelsea has taken to writing horror fiction herself. She just received a 100% from her English teacher on our collaboration of The Tear. The teacher said she'll never look at portraits the same way again, heh-heh.

    That's my girl! :}

Very wonderful child's poem.

Every second line rhymes and the rhythm is good. I like the backward numbers being learned here. I wish kids could memorize these days like we did when we were younger. Those ones you never forget. Awesome writing, Brooke.
