In the old wooden schoolhouse, girls almost never got in trouble for anything but giggling in class. Most of the teachers were mature women. Sounds like your poem has a lot of truth in it.

Cute poem, Brooke. I can remember the same happening to me in church when I was a kid. One would begin and it just passed on, and boy did we get in trouble. The eyes pierced through us.

for giggles don't die but double.
especially the inappropriate kind! And no matter how hard you try to hold them in. . .the more insistent they get! (I can't help but remember a specific time my dad was in the middle of reprimanding us kids, but the situation was so absurd, he couldn't hold it in. . .which of course infected all of us in turn.
LOL - these are things family history memorializes :-)

"...but giggles will grow despite all you try..." I can't tell you the number of times a patient has had a giggling fit over something no one else perceives, and we'll start giggling too because it's contagious! But the worst was during Mass years ago when the priest was reading a passage with the word "beasts" in it. Unfortunately, he substituted "breasts" and half the congregation had to excuse themselves from the church.

What an absolutely fun subject to write, we all need a few more giggles in our life. You never fail to provide a smile, neither does Sawyer :)
I thoroughly enjoyed this poem, you are indeed one of my all time favorite poets, and not just on FS either.
You writing and your feedback are always an absolute delight. I am confident that Sawyer's smile must come from you.
Hugs and Smiles,
Teresa

You could be describing my granddaughter, Brooke, as she, too, has "giggles that grow." And although the polite thing is not to giggle, one cannot help it when the urge comes.
Good description of the "one" that got the Speaker into trouble.
Some delightful rhymes to add to the playful tone.

I tend to follow your children's poems and, each and every time, what is apparent is your love of children. Your postings continue to be part silly, part funny, whimsical, and lovely.

I can relate to this one, those giggles just pop out. You have such a smooth flow of words and lines here,I can hear and feel a giggle rising and then coming out. Excellent poetic form.

Hello there, Brooksie
Another shining example of your ability to conjure up the most hearty of poems from a photograph.
Both compliment each other perfectly of course, and you rhyming sits brilliantly...
A lovely ticklish piece of writing
much love

That is so true Brooke and if you try to hold it in it just gets worse until you explode and laugh until you cry and your tummy hurts! There's nothing more therapeutic than a good belly laugh. I especially love children's giggles don't you? xx Nancy
