I love your counting poems. Things have come a long way since 10 Green Bottles Hanging on the wall, and it's all thanks to Brooke's great ideas! Cute and and entertaining. A definite winner with children and adults.

Curly Girly, thank you so much :-) Brooke

How delightful. One of your best counting poems. Since I find worms creepy (even if they are good for the soil) I laughed at their demise. Favorite stanzas: seven, but I loved all of them, hence the six for adding more sunshine to my day. :-) Shari

Thank you so much, Shari :-) I'm sure there are things I hate more, like poverty and injustice, but worms are high up on my list. LOL I appreciate your generous sixth star :-) Brooke

You always do such a great job with these counting poems.
I find myself smiling at the ingenious ways you dispose of the subjects one by one. "One heard that worms can never drown,
but he was misinformed". LOL Love that one. Pretty Robin Red Breast in the picture. Well Done Brooke. xx Nancy

What a wonderful counting poem for children! (Ever so much better than "ninety-nine bottles of beer on the wall".) What creative ways you had nine of them meet their fate before the stars came out. This is such fun. Love, Jeanie

HAHAHAHAHA! I don't care that this is supposed to be a children's poem - I am delighted! Poor ol' worms have it rough, and I should know (as I fish with 'em). LOL - wonderful, as always!

Thanks so much, my generous friend - are you telling me you actually touch them??? Nothing, and I mean nothing, revolts me more than worms. LOL :-) Brooke
-
Hahahaha - yes, I touch them, catch them (it's especially easy when it rains), put them on a hook...etc, etc...hahahaha! BTW - # eight getting cut in half just means he/she is now two worms, yes? HAHAHAHAHA!
-
oh, I think I'm going to throw up. YUCK!!!! LOL
-
HAHAHA - nah, not so bad when you're accustomed to it. I grew up fishing in the Northern Ontario lakes. :)

I'm sure someone somewhere has done something grosser ;-)

Yep, I'm sure too. :0)

I always enjoy learning the fate of the little critters in your counting poems - These guys were gobbled, hooked, raked, sucked down the drain, drowned, carried away in a flood, stomped on, and hunted by beady eyed crows. Good thing one escaped back into the ground, no doubt with a tale to tell his buddies - but, as for the one who was foolish enough to stay above ground, well... who knows what fate waits him?
Fun ABCB rhyme scheme and lots of giggles await the children listening to the story.
Rose.

All hail the queen of poetry! Brooke you are the best poet this site has ever seen, and that is with all due respect to all the other poets on this site. I have read many poems from many different poets exhibiting many different and diverse styles. Yet I stand by my assertion that you are hands down the best.

Absolutely enchanting! My grandchildren would LOVE this! Very lyrical and rhythmic. Lots of imagery plus great description: "a crow appeared and then their worries grew!" This is very well done, and I enjoyed it immensely. Thank you.

I just love childrens poetry and this was one I really loved. Counting rhymes to help those little ones learn. Great topic choice. Children love worms, they can relate to them and can see them on rainy days or in the garden. Loved every verse but my special one had to be the last one. To crawl where there had once been ten when day had just begun. Would share this with children and know they would love it. Genya

LOL! Robin and sawyer, dressed in matching outfits.
I'm going to learn how to count if you keep that up. I often wondered about worms drowning. Thanks for clearing that up. LOL!
A tale with no surprise ending, Brooke. Fun, though!
